영문 초록

This study explored some missiological trends in Korea which are revealed in Theology of Mission , the Journal of the Korean Society for Mission Studies, As a result , this study showed th at Korean missiologists have a strong tendency to study missiological themes like "missions and rel ig ions." " the gospel and cultures," "evangelism and church growth." "missions and social service." and "missions and the Bible." Korean missiologists try to find both general and special themes of missiology when they are involved in missiological studies. As John Wesley put it, th e sources of theology are the Scriptures, reason, tradition, and experience. First . missiology as a department of theology needs to look at the Bible carefully to discover Missio Dei and to art iculate how Missio Dei has been carried out throughout human hist ory, Korean missiology needs to admit that the Scriptures can be the foundation for missions . Consequently, it needs to stress the biblical studies of missions to develop it progressively. Second, Korean missiology needs to study in depth the relationship between the gos pel and cultures. God wants to be understood. Contextualization is crucial for the effective communication of the gospel message to people of different cultures . The gospel message can be meaningful when the message is contextualized into the nat ive culture. In t his vein, Korean missiology seeks to develop local theologies. Local theologies can develop as missionaries listen to popular religions. Third , Korean missiology needs to serve the church. Missiology as "the mother of theology" ought to help the church to carry our the Great Commission as well as the Great Commandment . Missiology needs to encourage the church to effectively participate in Missio Dei. God is the subject of His mission while the church is the means of God 's mission. The church needs to be the salt and the light to the world as it is consecrated to the Lord by the Holy spirit. Fourth, Korean missiology needs to seek a holistic mission while keeping the balance between ecumenism and evangelicalism. A holistic mission tries to keep the balance between evangel ism and social service largely because it follows the examples of Jesus Christ. A holistic mission is carried on th rough kerygma, did ache, diakonia, and koinonia. It calls for the church to follow both the evangel ist ic and the cultural mandates. Fifth , Korean missiology can develop when missiologists attempt to study theology on the one hand and cultural anthropology on the Other hand. Missions can be effectively carried on when cross-cultural mission aries understand the culture of the natives th at they are called to minister to. The gospel message never changes although cultures always change. Korean missiology needs to emphasize that missionaries are to make the eternal message meaningful in different cultures. Missions call for tears, sweat, and blood of cross-cultural missionaries when they are involved in Missio Dei. The ultimate goal of missions is to glorify God through the churches' participation in the Missio Dei. The church can be an effective instrument to extend the kingdom of God. The church needs to follow Jesus Christ as closely as possible when the Holy Spirit guides it. The church is worthwhile in its existence as long as it is involved in God' s mission.
