영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to examine Edinburgh Missionary Conference from women's perspective. The first section of the study mainly concentrates on how women were involved in this epoch-making conference. The study also identifies women who participated in the conference, and their main roles during the conference. Official women delegates were 208 people, out of 1,215 all delegates. Even though women were present during this conference, they were not in any leadership role, and mainly placed in a periphery of the conference. In the main Assembly Hall, there was little discussion on women's work, while separate meetings for women was held in Synod Hall. The study also examines 8 official reports of the conference to find out how women's mission work had been treated during the whole session. During the Oxford meeting, the international committee decided not to have separate commission for women's work, so, in each commissions, at least two women delegates were placed in the preparation committee, but not all commission were secured two persons in the preparation committee. In the case of Commission 7 and 8, there were no females in the preparation committee. Regarding official reports, women's work was mentioned in various places. But, the most frequent discussion on women's work is appeared in the commission III and VI. In the commission III, women's education work was greatly discussed, and in the commission VI, under the title of Home Base, women's missionary board and their amalgamization with general denominational mission board was also discussed. The finally suggestion was given that the amalgamization of the women's board with general mission board is desirable to create unity in missionary work, and suggested that it should be done proper manner. The study finally arrived at the missiological evaluation regarding how women's work was treated during this conference. The study suggested four points. 1. Overall, Edinburgh Conference did not give enough attention to women's work in mission. 2. Edinburgh Conference followed the mission strategy of women's work for women, which became very popular during those days. 3. By showing its opinion on women's independence in mission work, in long term, the Edinburgh has effected to the decrease of women's missionary movement. 4. Edinburgh Missionary conference has turned women's attention from overseas mission work to the women's issue in the home church, and made a turn to a new women's movement.
