4,5세 정상발달아동과 언어발달장애 아동의 억제조절 및 작업기억과 언어능력과의 관계

국문 초록

배경 및 목적: 본 연구는 4, 5세 정상발달아동과 이들과 유사한 언어능력을 가진 언어발달장애아동을 대상으로 억제조절, 작업기억, 언어능력 간의 관계를 조사하였다. 방법: 정상발달아동 총 49명(4세 24명, 5세 25명)과 언어발달장애아동 22명(언어연령 4세 12명, 언어연령 5세 10명)이 본 연구에 참여하였다. 억제조절 과제로 해-달 과제와 토끼-사자 과제가, 작업기억 과제로 8개의 상자 과제와 숫자 거꾸로 외우기 과제가 사용되었으며, 언어능력은 취학전아동의 수용언어 및 표현언어 발달척도를 통해 평가되었다. 결과: 첫째, 연령과 장애 여부에 따른 차이를 살펴본 결과, 토끼-사자 과제에서 4세 장애집단의 수행이 다른 세 집단보다 유의하게 낮았고, 숫자 거꾸로 외우기 과제에서 5세 장애집단의 수행이 4세 집단(정상, 장애 모두)보다 유의하게 높았다. 둘째, 억제조절 및 작업기억과 언어능력 간의 상관관계는 4세 장애집단에서만 언어능력과 토끼-사자 과제, 숫자 거꾸로 외우기 간 유의한 상관관계가 나타났다. 논의 및 결론: 5세 수준의 언어능력을 갖추게 되면 언어능력에 상관없이 안정적으로 억제조절 및 작업기억 과제를 수행할 수 있는 능력을 갖출 수 있고, 4세 수준의 언어능력을 갖추더라도 언어발달장애를 가지게 되면 기타 장애 조건 및 기타 변인들이 과제 수행에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 제한점과 시사점이 논의되었다.

영문 초록

Backgrounds & Objectives: In this study, inhibitory control, working memory, and language abilities of children with normal development and developmental language delay (DLD) were compared. Methods: Forty-nine normal children and 22 children with DLD matched for language age participated in this study. For evaluation, the authors employed ‘sun-moon’ and ‘rabbit-lion’ tasks for inhibitory control capacities, ‘eight-boxes’ and ‘backward number counting’ tasks for working memory capacities, and PRES for language abilities. Results: The 4-year-old disability group showed significantly lower performance in the ‘rabbit-lion' task than the other three groups. The 5-year-old disability group showed significantly higher performance in the ‘backward number counting’ task than the 4-year-old groups with or without disabilities. With regard to correlation between inhibitory control, working memory, and language abilities, a significant correlation was found only between language ability and the ‘rabbit-lion’ and ‘backward number counting’ tasks in the 4-year-old disability group. Discussion & Conclusion: If children have the language ability of a 5-year-old, then they can perform stable inhibitory control and working memory tasks regardless of their language ability. However, if they have the language ability of a 4-year-old, but with DLD, other disability conditions and variables can influence their task performances.
