배경음악을 통한 청각자극이 ADHD아동의 철자인지과제 수행에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 배경음악으로 주어진 청각자극이 초등학교 저학년 ADHD아동들과 일반아동들의 철자인지과제 수행에 긍정적 영향을 주는지를 살펴보았다. 배경음악의 영향은 철자인지과제 수행 시 아동이 보인 반응정확성과 반응시간에서의 변화를 통하여 조사하였다. 배경음악이 없는 조건에서 ADHD아동은 읽기수준이 비슷한 일반아동보다 유의미하게 많은 철자인지 오류를 보였으나, 철자인지 반응시간에서는 두 집단 간에 차이가 없었다. 두 집단 모두 배경음악을 제시하는 것이 철자인지과제 수행의 반응정확성에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 반응시간의 측면에서는 배경음악의 영향이 집단에 따라 달리 나타났다. 배경음악이 주어진 조건에서 ADHD아동의 반응시간은 그렇지 않은 경우보다 유의미하게 빨랐다. 반면에, 일반아동에게는 배경음악 제시 여부가 철자인지과제 수행의 반응시간에 영향을 미치지 않았다. 본 연구의 결과는 배경음악과 같은 청각자극의 도입이 ADHD아동의 과제처리속도의 향상에 긍정적 영향을 미침을 시사한다.

영문 초록

In the present study, we investigated the effect of auditory stimulation on the performances of ADHD children on word recognition task. The under-arousal model of ADHD predicts that ADHD children will perform better with auditory stimulation. Fifteen children with ADHD of grade 1 and 2, and 15 normal children with matched reading skills participated in the study. On the word recognition task, the children were asked to find a previously given target word among three words that varied by only one letter. They performed the word recognition task in two different conditions, with and without background music. Without the background music, the ADHD children made significantly more errors than the normal children, but the mean reaction times(RTs) did not significantly differ across the groups. When background music was provided, the ADHD children’s RTs were significantly reduced and their error rates did not change. The presence of background music did not affect the performance accuracy and RTs of the normal children on the word recognition task. The results indicate that auditory stimulation has positive effects on ADHD children’s word recognition.
