현대 크로아티아어의 정체성과 현 상황

국문 초록

민족갈등으로 인한 구유고연방의 붕괴는 유고슬라비아지역의 정치적， 사회적 변화뿐만 아니라 이지역의 언어상황에도 새로운 변화를 초래했다. 연방의 최대 공용어(common language) 였던‘세르보크로아티아어(srpskohrvatskil serbocroatian) ’의 종말과 함께 개별 공화국들은 자신들의 지역 방언에 기초한 새로운 표준어확립을 위한 ‘인위적인’언어개혁(language planning)을 시작한다. 이들 공화국중 자신들의 오랜 어문전통 포기하고 남슬라브민족의 통일이라는 명분하에 신슈토방언(Neo-Stokavian)을 표준어로 선택한 크로아티아어는 세르보크로아티아어의 후계언어중 가장 어려운 언어상황에 직면하고 있다. 현 언어상황이 크로아티아에게 있어서는 자신들의 언어사를 바로 세울 수 있는 좋은 기회이기도 하지만 현대크로아티아어와 포기했던 이전의 어문전통의 복원을 통한 세르비아어와의 차별화와 현대크로아티아어의 근본적인 정체성을 찾아야 o}는 과제가 남아있다. 이 연구는 현대 크로아티아어의 표준화와 관련된 논쟁에서 출발하여 현대크로아티아의 발전과정과 현 상황을 정체성 문제와 관련지어 개관적인 입장에서 분석해 보고자 한다.

영문 초록

The aim of this article is to describe some of the debate on the developments of croatian standard language and the “new Croatian". In the summer of 1991 the croatian and serbian government officially declared the end of “Serbocroatian" which is the common language of the former Yugoslavia. Although it is true that “Serbocroatian" was threatened form the time of "knjizevni dogovor(literary Agreement, 1850)" never gained a stable single norm, the language nevertheless had attained the status of an important southslavic literary language and was the most important language in the unified Yugoslav state. After the official break up of Serbocroatian linguistic unity, the language policy of two nations, specially croatian language planners, focuses on the extent of their differentiation under the impact of nationalism. The main question posed in this article is: what has really happened in Croatia regarding the language and linguistic circumstance in the last ten years? Obviously, the attitudes of Croatian twards their language have changed in some measure under the influence of language policy. A brief examination of the history of the developments of contemporary croatian standard language and of the language policy demonstrates that its theoretical construction is based upon the intrinsic contradiction between the organic and contractual theory of language. Thus, the recent path of the language from ‘Serbocroatian" to ‘new Croatian" is not accompanied by real scholarly and linguistic explanation; its direction is above all determined politically and ideologically.
