This study, with the contemporary introduction of the import liberalization into Korea, has started into and argument on rapidly changing food environments which have raised various questions about food pollution and its control. Therefore the purpose of this thesis lies is reinforcing consumer's awareness of food safety. To guarantee the survey, the investigation of trust degree in to measurement means preceded the questionnaire. The subjects, housewives residing here in Seoul, participated in the study. They were randomly samples and about 545 out of 600 questionnaires were retrieved(retrieval rate : 91%). Data analysis is based on frequency, percentage X-test, F-test, and the computational processing of SPSS(The significance of the result was interpreted in less than 5% as an allowable error). The summary of the data analysis is given below. 1. Awareness Thedency of Food Safety Surrently most of the housewives have serious doubt food safety in the practical life. Above all the heavy metal additives and remaining agricultural chemicals are regarded as the most dangerous factors, needless to say consumers' uneasiness. 2. Housewife's Food Selection and Actual Condistions on Synthetic Condiment Use It is reported that the consumers in fifties rather than is twenties have a tendency to take more care of using the food additives, for instance, synthetic flavoring condiments. The materials have much room for being pollution elements in the course of food processing. The survey also shows that the older the housewife is the more conscious she is when treating food selection. In addition, food safety is preferred to convenience in the processing of the food selection. The older consumers tend to set importance on the food selection with regard to their family health. 3. Food Selection Preference on Imported and Domestic Goods Generally housewives prefer domestic food. The reasons are as follows : First, the awareness of the national economy regarding the economic development can be considerably counted ; Second, the security of food selection is also indispensable to them. Information Consciousness and Family Health Housewives have much psychological burden on the food expense management on account of the insufficient consciousness of food information. 5. Import Liberalization and Protection Program and Food Safety Every consumer should, both voluntarily and powerfully, strive himself/herself for food safety responsibility.
