루터의 공교육 사상에 대한 연구

국문 초록

교육학자 이전에 신학자이면서 목사였던 루터는 교육을 하나님께의 봉사를 위한 도구로 보았다. 그는 신 앞에서는 모든 인간이 평등하며 누구나 사제가 될 수 있다는 만인사제론을 주장하고, 이를 위해 모든 사람은 교육의 대상이 되어야 한다고 하였다. 따라서 국가와 사회는 모든 사람으로 하여금 교육의 기회를 제공해야 하는데, 이것이 그의 공교육사상의 근거가 되었다. 루터의 공교육사상은 학교교육으로 구체화되었으며, 궁극적인 교육의 목적을 하나님 나라의 질서유지와 보전을 위해 필요한 인재양성에 두었다. 이를 위해 기존의 성경, 교리문답 등의 학과목 외에 언어 역사 등의 새로운 교육내용을 가르칠 것을 주장하였으며, 지식위주의 암기와 반복에 의한 교육으로부터 아동중심교육원리에 입각한 진보적이고 다양한 학습방법을 주장하였다. 결국 루터의 교육사상은 교육의 주체를 교회로부터 국가로 이관함으로써 근대 및 현대의 공교육사상과 의무교육사상의 토대가 되었으며, 이런 점에서 그의 교육사상의 교육학적 의의는 결코 과소 평가할 수 없다.

영문 초록

This thesis is to study M. Luther's revolutionary thoughts on public education. My main concern is to apply Luther' theological background to his thoughts of education. Luther claimed that authority of Biblical interpretation should not be monopolized by the Pope or priests. he was sure that every man has the same authority and privilege. Therefore, any christian has the right to be reconciled with God directly, any one can become a righteous man by faith. His educational thoughts had two aims ; one is to bring up the religious human beings and the other is to bring up the citizens to develop the prosperity of society and nation. His attitude toward teaching was progressive that he spoke class rooms must be attractive and learning ought to be interesting to learners and texts must fit to student's ability and teachings, considering pupils characters and their condition, should not be a boredom by being too strict. It is true that he gives many suggestions for the modern education. Those are the proposals of public education, the emphasis of equal education and compulsory education, the operation of vocational education, and the suggestion of library establishment. Also Luther must be recognized both as a religious reformers as well as a pioneer of public education who set a new goal for the education of the whole personality.
