영문 초록

The purpose of his paper is to consider somethings of Rousseau's concept of general will and to show how it can be teachable in the civic education. Jean Jacques Rousseau's philosophy of education is possibly one of the most misunderstood, and generally misinterpreted educational doctrines. What is the law? Rousseau calls it the universal voice. It is the voice of the general will. What is the General Will? It is not easy to answer precisely. Therefore, there is no definition of general will. It is an abstract concept and is subject to change according to the interpretation of people involved. The most general will, says Rousseau, is always the most just also. All action are the result of will, but my will for the good of the state is morally superior to any other will, private or associational. The Émile itself approves of the civic education of antiquity. His Attitude in the Émile is that education must be wholly civic or individualistic. His most widely accepted views are those which concern training through activity, mental or bodily. But, emphasized the negative education too much in earlier education, he failed to see the paradox that we only become rational by reasoning and only acquire social feelings by social action.
