국문 초록
본 연구에서는 연령이 증가함에 따라 창의성이 감소하는지 살펴보고 성인기의 창의성을 유지하고, 또한 성인기의 잠재되어 있는 창의력을 계발하기 위해 어떻게 노력할 것인가에 대하여 몇 가지 제안하고자 한다.
창의성 발달과 연령에 관한 대표적인 연구들에서 나타난 중요한 결과를 네 가지로 요약하면, 첫째, 창의성을 창의적인 산출물로 접근하지 않고 창의적인 과정으로 접근했을 때는 40∼60대까지 지속적으로 증가했다. 둘째, 창의적인 산출물의 영역에 따라 그 정점에 도달하는 시기가 달랐다. 셋째, 창의적인 과정에 두 가지 유형이 있다. 개념론자들은 20대와 30대에 창의성의 정점에 도달하지만 실험가들은 60대와 70대에 정점에 도달한다. 넷째, 창의성을 일정한 불변의 특성이 아니라 질적으로 변하는 특성으로 볼 수 있다. 즉 창의적 발달 단계에 따라 창의성이 질적으로 더 높은 수준으로 변화해가는 것으로 본다.
성인들의 창의성을 개발하기 위한 세 가지 전략을 제안했다. 성인기의 창의성 개발을 위해서는 지식을 습득하고, 탈습관화하기위해 노력하고, 긍정적인 자기상을 가지는 것이 중요하다.

영문 초록
In this study first it was investigated whether creativity decreases with increasing age, thereafter some suggestions were made for maintaining and developing the potential creativity.
The important findings from the representative studies on the relationship between age and creativity were, first when creativity was approached withcreative process rather than creative product, it was continuously increased until 50"s and 60"s. Second, according to the domains of creative product, the peak period was different. Third, there were two types of creative process: Conceptualists and experimentalists. Conceptualists reach the peak of their creativity at their 20"s and 30"s. In contrast, experimentalists reach that peak attheir 60"s and 70"s. Fourth, creativity can be seen not as a constant and fixed,but as a qualitatively changing with increasing age.
Three strategies were suggested for the development of adult creativity: making an effort to extend knowledge base, trying to avoid habituation, and keeping positive self-image.
