국문 초록

  본 연구는 초과이익을 결정하는 요인을 알아보기 위함이다. 초과이익모형(RIM)을 통해 경제이론의 economic rent를 창출하는 경제적 특성요인과 회계이론의 보수주의회계요소가 초과이익에 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. 실증 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 보수주의에 의한 회계처리는 초과이익에 일부 양의 영향을 미쳤으며 둘째, 산업수준에서 초과이익에 양의 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 경제적 특성측면에서 산업집중도, 산업진입장벽(연구개발비집약도, 광고선전비집약도)이었다. 셋째, 기업수준에서는 경제적 특성요인으로 시장점유율, 진입장벽(연구개발비집약도)등이 미래초과이익예측에 양의 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 초과이익을 결정하는 요인들은 기업가치 평가를 위한 시장대장부가치비율분석에서도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 초과이익에 영향을 미치는 요인을 포괄적으로 분석하였으며, 특히 보수주의 회계변수를 초과이익 모형에서 산출한 Cheng(2005)의 연구를 국내에 적용함으로 회계적 요인과 경제적 요인을 고려하여 초과이익예측에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다는데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

  This study investigates what determines abnormal income. It uses industry and firm characteristics suggested by economic theories to capture economic rents and develops an empirical measure- the conservative accounting factor- to capture th impact of conservative accounting. The empirical analyses examine whether these determinants help predict future abnormal income and help explain the market-to-book ratio.
  The empirical results can be summarized as follows: First, industry-level abnormal income increases with industry concentration and industry-level barriers to entry(R&D intensity, Advertising intensity). Second, the firm-level abnormal income increases with market share, firm-level barriers to entry(R&D intensity), and firm conservative accounting factors. Integrating these determinants into the RIM significantly increases its explanatory power for the variation in the market-to-book ration.
  This study contributes to the valuation literature by investigating determinants of abnormal income and by linking these determinants to firm value.
