강원도의‘상징성’ : 지역 차별화를 위한 Peirce의 삼부이론을 통한 Visual System Design에 관하여

국문 초록

  ‘문화의 콘텐츠화 시대’를 맞이하여 각 지역 문화의 독특한 원형을 발견하고자 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 하지만 지금까지의 노력은 기존의 전통문화를 복원하거나 또는 그에 따른 상징적 이미지를 구현하는데 그치고 있다. 이는 마케팅에서 주장하는 차별화를 통한 브랜드의 우위점 확보와 지역문화경쟁체제를 확립하기 위한 전략과는 무관한 문화 보존적인 차원으로만 접근을 하고 있어 지역경제의 활성화를 위한 경쟁력을 제공하는데 많은 어려움을 겪고 있다.
  본 연구는 지역의 경쟁력을 위해 타 지역과 차별화할 수 있는 다양한 접근가운데 강원도 고유의 시지각적 상징성의 원형을 발견하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 퍼스(Peirce)의 삼부이론을 통하여 상징성을 재해석하였으며 기호사변형을 통하여 강원도상징성의 의미구조를 확인하였다. 또한 기호논리의 자의성(arbitrary)을 최대한 벗어나기 위해 실험조사를 통한 통계처치를 하였다. 결과적으로 강원도의 시지각적인 상징성의 원형은 다양한 조형요소가운데 ‘수평선’으로 대표되며 이는 제시된 이미지를 통하여 ‘문화적인 차원’의 상징성보다 ‘자연적인 차원’의 상징성이 보다 강하다는 점이 드러났다. 또한 선이 지니고 있는 다양한 의미가운데 ‘평화’적인 의미가 강조된 상징성임을 확인하였다.

영문 초록

  In the advent of "a cultural contents age", each local government makes strenuous efforts to find out a unique prototype of its own culture. But their efforts have been made so far only to recover the existing traditional culture or to embody a traditional symbolic images accordingly. It pursues only a cultural preservation which is entirely unrelated to the differentiation strategy for securing a local culture competition system, which fails to provide them with a competitiveness for revitalizing local economy. Against this background, this study reanalyzed the symbolism based on Peirce"s "the model of triangle" and identified a perceptive structure of symbolism of the province of Kangwondo through a symbol quadrilateral. And this study took statistical measures through conducting an experimental survey to minimize the arbitrariness of symbolism.
  As a result, it was discovered that the visual and perceptive symbolic prototype of Kangwondo Province was represented by a "sea horizon" among various formative factors, which tells that through the image presented, the symbolism on the "natural level" is stronger than that on the "cultural level" In addition, this study identified the symbolism that emphasized the "peace" among various meanings that the goodness cherishes.
