영문 초록

  In this study, I investigated the present status of the Korean shipbuilding industry from an aspect the competition strategies. And this paper focuses on the most important motivation for developing of its nation"s shipbuilding industry. Korea and Japan, Korea"s leading competitor, together account for about 70 percent of the global shipbuilding market. Therefore, the competition between two countries will be more intensified. In particular, after the gap in technology is reduced, the gap in productivity will be important in determining competitiveness. Recently, it has been reported that the profits on new orders are very low. Under this conditions, maximizing profit will depend on reducing costs by improving productivity. And above situation will give them the choice to build high value-added vessels in the future. Therefore, this paper"s suggestions to Korean shipbuilders are as follows. 1. to build value-added vessel should be given more weight 2. to strengthen cooperation between Korean shipbuilders 3. facilities much be improved upon 4. diversify into new area and gradually spread out into every sector of the shipbuilding industry 5. production capabilities must be improved upon with shop automation and system integration 6. much more active investment into research and development is need.
