Numerical simulations on the sediment transport in Songdo beach, Pohang region were carried out by using Mike21 which is consisted of a couple of modules e.g. Hydrodynamic module, Wave modules and Sediment Transport module etc. MIKE21 is a commercial program of DHI and only execution files can be available. Field observed data and reported data were analyzed to get the suitable input data set of MIKE21 program and also were used in the parameter calibrations in each MIKE21 modules.
Numerical simulations which considered the effects of Hyungsan river channel change, river mouth dredging, POSCO stages 3ㆍ4 construction, storm surge and Pohang Guhang breakwater. Each factors effect are converted with the value of bottom slope change (dz/dt) within the area from coastline to 300m offshore line. The effect of storm surge is the strongest and the effect of Guhang breakwater and POSCO stage 3ㆍ4 construction is almost the same at the Songdo beach region. All the numerical simulated results are shown in the figures.
Finally the results show that there is no consistent tendency such as erosion beach or deposition beach at the Pohang Songdo beach.
