Traditionally, Korea and China have been maintained so closely relationship, because of both countries very close location. So historically Korea and China have had an effect on politics, economy, culture in all aspects.
However China entered the Korean war and founded of communist government in 1949. Both countries were broken off. In 1979, china took a open policy, the amount of trade has dramatically increased between Korea and China. Especially, since they had the official diplomatic relation in 1992.
As a result china became the 3rd partner of Korea in trade to Korea, after U.S.A. and Japan. Korea did the 6th one to China. In addition the recent report shows that China became the first partner of Korea in trade to Korea. Under the change of international trade the Kunsan port become very important harbor in overseas trade between Korea and China. Despite the importance in the Kunsan port target sites and target industries and the advantage in trading with China. The quality of many aspects such as port facilities, operation, and government policy are very poor.
In this point of view this study examined the development of Kunsan port as a foreign trade port from China and presented following results.
First, we should improve on port facilities surrounding the Kunsan port. it helps more efficient operation the Kunsan port and attracts many company interested in trading with China through the Kunsan port.
Second, we should establish for multi-transporting systems like facility expansions, railway, ports, airports, etc.
In order to establish for multi-transporting systems, we need the support of government policy and voluntarily participated in civil investment.
Third, we should be aggresive use the Kunsan free trade district, of the railway service wire and the new Kunsan port inside the industrial complex for the activation and development of the Kunsan free trade district, are scarce.
Also free trade district benefits from customs and tax etc. So many firms are attracted by the Kunsan port. In oder to trade with China by cheaper costs of containers and freights.
The major point of this study is not only that the Kunsan port becomes first harbor of east-north asia logistics network but also that Kunsan port supports the Busan port and the kwangyang port as a sub-port.
So many firms have competance by reducing the cost of logistics in the sharper change of international trade environment.
