국문 초록

본 연구는 그동안 생협운동이 주부층을 중심으로 생활영역의 문제를 다룬다는 점에서 여성의 성역할을 강화시킨다는 측면만 보는 시각에 문제의식을 갖고, 여성과 생협운동 간의 다중적 측면들을 살펴봄으로써 생협운동이 지닌 여성주의 정치학으로서의 가능성을 탐색하고자 한다. 생협운동은 주부들이 주로 담당하고 있는 생활영역을 재구성하여 생활정치화함으로써 여성의 현실적 고민과 이해를 반영하면서 여성들의 폭넓은 참여를 유도하고, 살림 영역을 지역사회로 확대해 나감으로써 공사 영역에 대한 가부장적 이분법을 넘나드는 모습을 보여준다. 반면 생협에서 활동하고 있는 여성들은 가정 내 성역할, 성별분업에 무감각한 생명 가치의 강조, 생협 조직 내 남성중심성, 생협의 시장화 등의 문제에 부딪치면서 여러 가지 어려움을 겪게 되고 이는 생협운동의 활성화에 지장을 준다. 그러나 이러한 갈등적 상황에도 불구하고, 생협운동의 여성활동가들은 나름대로 어려움에 대응하면서 살림 및 관계성을 바탕으로 한 가치관의 전환과 여성의 임파워먼트를 이루어 나가는 모습을 보여준다.

영문 초록

This study starts with the question of how feminism will cope with the accelerating ecological crisis. This paper searches for the possibility of a feminist politics through consumers' cooperative movements (CCMs) by paying attention to multi-dimensional relations between women and the consumers' cooperative movements. The CCMs politicize houseswives' everyday lives by reconstructing their daily activities, and the movements encourage women's broad participation by reflecting their practical interests and problems. Furthermore, by expanding household activities to the wider local communities, the movements blur the patriarchal dichotomy of the public/private sector. Despite the above merits, women participants experience many difficulties in CCMs such as women's traditional gender roles, emphasis on 'salim' value without gender perspectives, androcentrism in the organizations and CCM's commercialization. Nevertheless, women's activities in the CCMs try to shift the paradigm aiming at 'salim' or 'saengmyung (life)' values against the patriarchal society, which can lead to the revaluation of women and women's reproduction activities, and expand women's empowerment from the grass-roots.
