과거제 선발 경쟁의 교육사회학적 성격에 관한 연구

국문 초록

과거제는 능력주의 이념과 객관적이고 공정성을 지닌 선발 제도이다. 과거제는 시험의 기원이 되었으며, 오늘날 시험과 비슷한 문제점을 가지고 있었다. 과거제는 관료를 선발하는 데 목적이 있었다. 관료는 지위, 권력, 부를 일시에 점유함으로써, 대단한 사회적 위세를 지녔었다. 관료가 되기 위한 사회적 경쟁은 치열할 수밖에 없었다. 특히 사회적 공정성을 확보한 과거제에 의해 선발된 관료는 모든 계층의 선망의 대상이 되었다. 따라서 관료가 되기 위한 경쟁은 과거 경쟁으로 이어 졌다. 과거 경쟁은 개인과 가문의 사회 생존권 차원에서 필사적으로 이루어졌다. 그래서 유교 교육은 그 목적과 달리 과거 합격의 수단으로 전락하게 되었다. 관료가 되기 위한 세속적 욕망은 과거제에 대한 집착을 강화했으며, 이러한 집착은 과정보다 결과에 탐닉하게 하는 교육적 인식을 팽배시켰다. 유교 교육은 시험을 위한 시험, 과거를 위한 과거, 관료를 위한 관료의 수단에 불과하였다. 결국 과거 경쟁은 지위지향적, 결과주의적, 가족주의적, 상징주의적 교육 경쟁의 성격 형성에 직접적인 원인이 되었다. 따라서 교육 경쟁구조도 과거 경쟁의 사회적 성격이 교육적으로 표현된 것이었다. 교육 경쟁은 사회적 경쟁의 틀을 벗어날 수 없게 된다는 것이다. 관료적 사회 경쟁은 과거 경쟁에 영향을 주고, 과거 경쟁은 교육 경쟁을 형성시키기 때문이다. 교육 경쟁은 사회적 경쟁의 토대 위에서 형성된다. 교육 경쟁은 사회적 경쟁이라는 것이다.

영문 초록

The civil service examination system is the selection system that has the meritocracy concept and guarantees the objectivity and the fairness. It has been the origin of the exam and had also the similar problems to today' exams. It has propose in selecting the bureaucracy. The bureaucracy had the power, the richness and the status at once and occupied the higher social position. So, the social competition to become the bureaucracy have developed with violence. the selected bureaucracy by the civil service examination that secured the social objectivity became an object of envy in all classes. The competition to become the bureaucracy has been connected to the competition of the civil service examination. The competition of the civil service examination was carried out desperately in social existence dimension of the family and the individual. In result, the confucian education fell to the mean to pass the civil service examination contrary to its own purpose. The worldly desire to become the bureaucracy built up the adherence to the civil service examination, and this adherence increased the result directed understanding that was addicted to more the result than the process. The confucian education was just the means to the exam for the exam, the civil service examination for the civil service examination, and the bureaucracy for the bureaucracy. In conclusion, the competition of the civil service examination became the direct result to character formation of the status-, the result-, the family-, and the symbolism-focused education competition. The educational competition organization was just expressed educationally to the competition character of the civil service examination. Judging from this point of view, the educational competition can't free itself from the frame of the social competition. The bureaucratic social competition influences the competition of the civil service examination, and the competition of the civil service examination induces the educational competition. The educational competition is formed on the foundation of the social competition. The educational competition means the social competition.
