국문 초록

본 논문은 투자 후 벤처캐피털(venture capital, 이후 VC)과 벤처기업간 관계를 연구대상으로 하고 있으며, VC가 투자기업에 제공하는 모니터링과 지원활동 수준의 결정요인에 대한 이해를 높이는 것을 목적으로 한다. 65개 벤처기업에 대한 설문조사를 토대로 한 실증분석 결과에 따르면 VC가 제공하는 모니터링 순준은 VC와 벤처경영팀의 소유지분과는 정(+)의 관계를, 벤처기업의 성과와는 부(-)의 관계를 가지고 있으나 절차공정성의 인지정도와는 관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 반면 지원활동 수준은 VC의 소유지분과 벤처경영팀의 소유지분과는 관계가 없는 반면, 벤처기업의 성과가 나쁠수록, 절차공정성 인지정도가 높을수록 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 논문은 실증분석 결과가 가지는 시사점을 논의하고 향후 연구과제를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the determinants of the levels of post-investment monitoring and value-added by venture capitalists (VC). Based on the responses of65 VC-backed start-up companies, we found that levels of VC monitoring were positively associated with VC ownership and top management team ownership, but negatively associated with venture performance. Perceived procedural justice was found to have no relationship with levels of VC monitoring. On the other hand, levels of VC value-added increased as venture performance deteriorated and as perceived procedural justice improved. VC ownership and top management team ownership failed to influence levels of VC value-added. We conclude by discussing the implications of the findings and future research directions.
