국문 초록

본 연구는 로스토우가 1960년『 經濟發展段階說』을 발표한 이후 약 10여년간 진행된 논쟁을 정리, 평가한 것이다. 간결하면서도 대담한 로스토우의 접근방법과 분석들, 그리고 歷史觀, 유형도출의 정교함에 대해 마르크스파와 비마르크스파, 계량경채학자로부터 많은 비판을 받아 왔다. 그러나 그는 뉴턴적 인식변화, 선진국의 침략에 대한 민족주의 정신, 투자율 상승 등 성장을 자동적이게 하는 요소, 일반적 명제를 추출해 내야 하는 경제발전 단계연구 과제 등의 이유에서 자기의 논거의 정당성을 계속 주장한다. 이러한 양자의 주장을 발전의 자동성 여부, 각국 경제발전의 독자성파 일반성, 경제발전의 연속성과 단속성 등 쟁점별로 분류 검토한 결과 비록 그의 이론은 지나친 경제발전단계의 일반화와 함께 논리의 非精巧함으로 反共黨宣言으로서의 이데올로기적 역할은 다하지 못하였으나 경제발전단계 해석의 새로운 문제제기와 함께 경제발전 유형화의 새로운 접근방법을 제공하였다는 데서 의의를 찾을 수 있다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

Rostow's 『 The Stage of Economics Growth』 in the last ten years since its publication in 1960. In spite of its simple and drastic approach on the analytic structure. historical overview. and elaborate material deduction. The stage of economic growth has had much criticism from Marxists, Anti-Marxists and Econometricians. However. Rostow continuously insisted on the legitimacy of his theory based on the factors that contribute to automatic growth, such as Newton's perception change, Nationalism against invading developed nations and the increase of investment ratio. After classifying and reviewing the possibility of automation, the uniqueness and the generalization of economic development of each country. the continuity and the intermittence of economic development by the issues. the following conclusion has been reached. Rostow's theory was not able to do its own ideological role for Anti-Communism Declaration because of immoderate generalizaton of economic development stages and unspecific ideas. But this has suggested a new issue of interpretation of economic development stages. and a new approach of the formation of economic development.
