교과서 젠더 개념에 대한 성소수자 예비교사의 인식 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 수도권 사범대학에 재학 중인 4명의 성소수자 예비교사와의 심층 면담을 통해 고등학교 <생활과 윤리> 및 <사회․문화> 교과서 젠더 관련 단원에 대한 성소수자 예비교사의 인식과 관점을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 성소수자 예비교사들은 해당 교과서가 복합적인 개념으로서의 젠더 스펙트럼을 과대 단순화하거나 축약하고 있고, 성소수자 집단의 존재를 삭제하고 있다고 보았다. 둘째, 연구참여자들은 성소수자 개념이 인권 옹호의 목적이 아닌 토론의 도구로 활용되는 경향과 그에 따른 문제점을 지적하였다. 셋째, 해당 교과서가 성소수자의 혐오와 차별에 대한 개인주의적 접근 경향을 보이며, 혐오와 차별의 관행의 원인과 해결 방안에 관한 거시적(사회구조적, 제도적 또는 역사적) 접근을 결여함을 지적하였다. 넷째, 연구참여자들은 교사의 위치에서 젠더 개념을 수업 주제로 다룰 경우 자기 검열과 타협의 가능성을 보여주었고, 여기에는 성소수자에 대한 혐오와 차별의 분위기, 학교 안 성소수자 지지 및 상담 시스템의 부재가 영향을 미치고 있었다. 본 연구의 결과는 성소수자 개념에 대한 영 교육과정의 실제 효과, 2022 개정 교육과정 교과서 개발 과정 그리고 성소수자 예비교사 관련 후속 연구에 대한 시사점을 제공한다.

영문 초록

The main purpose of this qualitative study was to analyze the perceptions and perspectives of four LGBTQ pre-service teachers on gender-related units of high school textbooks, and , using in-depth interviews. The major findings from this study are as follows. First, four pre-service teachers saw that the textbook oversimplifies and abbreviates the gender spectrum, which is a complex concept, and tends to erase the existence of LGBTQ groups from the textbooks. Second, the study participants pointed out the tendency of the LGBTQ concept to be used as a tool for discussion rather than as an object of human rights advocacy and the relevant problems. Third, it was argued that the textbook tended to exhibit an individualistic approach toward the issues of hate and discrimination against LGBTQ people, and lacked a macro (social structural, institutional or historical) approach to the causes and solutions of those harmful practices. Fourth, participants demonstrated the potential for self-censorship and compromise when addressing gender concepts as a classroom topic, which is associated with the climate of homophobia and discrimination against LGBTQ people and the lack of LGBTQ support and counseling systems in schools. The results from this study have implications for the actual effect of the null curriculum phenomenon in local classrooms, the follow-up research on LGBTQ preservice teachers, and the on-going 2022 revised curriculum textbook development process.
