TV 프로그램에 재현되는 한국적 다문화주의의 특성: EBS <다문화고부열전>을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 EBS 교양 다큐 프로그램인 <다문화고부열전>에 나타난 한국적 다문화주의의 특성을 분석한 것이다. 지속적인 시청률 증가를 보이고 있는 EBS <다문화고부열전>을 분석하여 TV프로그램에서 결혼이주여성들이 한국사회에서 어떠한 문제로 가족 간 특히 고부간의 갈등을 일으키는 지, 그들의 문제를 재현하며 갈등을 해결해나가는 데 있어 한국사회의 다문화주의가 어떻게 이미지화 되고 묘사되는 지를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 <다문화고부열전>의 내용을 1회부터 53회까지(집중분석 20회 분량) 분석하였다. 한국적 다문화주의는 결혼이주여성과 다문화가정에 관계된 특성을 지니고 있었으며 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 끊임없이 강요되는 동화주의이다. 모든 회에 걸쳐 고부간의 문화차이에서 생기는 문제가 발생하고 있으며, 집중분석대상이 된 20개의 에피소드에서도 며느리에게 강한 동화주의 강요하는 시어머니와의 갈등 사례는 가장 중요하고 빈번한 갈등원인이다. 둘째, 새로운 혈육 이데올로기로 만들어지는 가족중심주의이다. 이질적인 결혼이주여성의 문화를 보여주지만 그래도 ‘가족의 가치’를 강조해 며느리를 ‘가족’의 테두리에 둠으로서 동질성을 공유하겠다는 것이다. 새로운 혈육 이데올로기가 탄생하게 되는 것이다. 셋째, 여전히 주변인으로 취급당하는 결혼이주여성이다. 시어머니들은 주위의 실제 사례와 이주여성에 대한 부정적인 미디어담론의 영향으로 며느리들에 대한 ‘도주불안’을 가지고 있었으며 이불안은 결혼이주여성을 주변인으로 머물게 하는 기제역할을 하고 있었다. 넷째, 결혼이주여성에 대한 온정주의적 시각이다. 한국사회는 한국사회에 정착하여 우리와 같이 살아갈 외국인과 그렇지 않은 외국인을 구분한다. 결혼이주여성은 ‘우리화’ 되어 살아갈 대상이기에 초기 결혼이주여성을 보는 시각에서부터 온정적이었다. 이 온정주의적 시선은 현재까지도 이어지고 있으나 이는 결혼이주여성의 정체성의 문제와 삶의 방식에 대한 이해와는 다른 별개의 문제인 것이다.

영문 초록

This study analyzed Korean multicultural characteristics appeared in < Stories of Multicultural Mother and Daughter-in-Law >, EBS cultural program. It aims to find out what conflicts foreign married immigrated women face especially with mother-in-law in Korean society and how multi-culture in Korean society was reflected in images and demonstrated in reenacting and resolving their problems in TV program to analyze EBS < Stories of Multicultural Mother and Daughter-in-Law > with increasing ratings. For this, from the first to the 53th episodes of < Stories of Multicultural Mother and Daughter-in-Law > were analyzed (20 episodes were analyzed intensively). Korea multiculturalism has following characteristics related to foreign married immigrated women and multicultural families. First, it is a persistent forced assimilation. Every episode has problems due to cultural difference between mother and daughter-in-law. And in 20 episodes which were analyzed intensively, the most significant and frequent conflict cause was a strong forced assimilation by mother-in-law to daughter-in-law. Second, it is a paternalism made by ‘new family ideology’. It is to share homogeneity under ‘family’ border to force daughter-in-laws to have ‘the value of family’, though they show different culture of and foreign married immigrated women. And it creates ‘new family ideology’. Third, it is that foreign married women are still treated as surrounding person. Mother-in-law has ‘worries that immigrated women could run away’ under the influences of real cases and negative media discourse and these worries make married immigrated women surrounding person. Fourth, it is a paternalistic perspective to married immigrated women. Korean society still separates foreigners who would live with us or not. The perspective to married immigrated women has been paternalistic from the beginning because they are subjects of ‘Koreanization’ to live together. This paternalistic perspective has continued until now, but it is a different matter with the matter of identity and life style for married immigrated women.
