국문 초록

본 연구는 경제적·물질적으로 불리한 환경에서 안정적인 진로성취를 이룬 저소득층 배경 대학생들의 성공기제를 ‘긍정’으로 보고, 그 의미를 이해하고자 하는 질적 사례연구이다. 이를 위해 S장학재단 질적 종단연구 연구참여자 중 1990년대생 대졸 청년 9명을 대표사례로 선정하였고, 2016년과 2022년에 수집된 면담자료를 중심으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 첫째, 역경 극복 경험이 있는 연구참여자들은 ‘긍정’을 자신의 핵심 특성으로 생각하며, 강한 자기 확신으로 낙관적 미래를 전망했다. 둘째, 불안과 압박 속에서도 연구참여자들은 현실 수용과 적극적 대응방안 선택, 학업성취 경험을 통한 노력에 대한 신뢰, 불리한 경험의 재해석/재구성을 통해 긍정의 태도를 유지하였다. 셋째, 연구참여자들은 무리한 목표를 치밀한 계획과 자기관리를 통해 성취하였고, 성취 경험은 연구참여자들의 긍정을 고양하였다. 연구참여자들의 긍정은 무한한 노력과 오랜 시간 훈련된 습관으로 만들어낸 결과였다. 이 같은 연구결과는 저소득층 배경 대학생들의 지속가능한 성장을 위한 학습지원서비스 기획에 시사점을 주고 있다.

영문 초록

This study is a qualitative case study to understand the success mechanisms of university students from low-income classes who achieved stable careers in the materially and economically disadvantaged setting. To this end, nine participants from the qualitative longitudinal study of the S Scholarship Foundation were chosen as case and interview data collected in 2016 and 2022 was analyzed. As a result of the analysis, first, the participants who have overcome adversity view being "positive" as one of their defining traits and forecast an upbeat future with high self-confidence. Second, the participants managed to stay positive in the face of stress and anxiety by accepting reality, choosing an aggressive response, placing their faith in their own efforts after experiencing academic success, and reinterpreting or reconstructing negative experiences. Third, the participants achieved their goals through meticulous planning and self-management, and the success experience increased their positivity. The participants' positivity was the result of unending effort and well-practiced behaviors. The findings of the study have significance for learning support programs for low-income university students' sustained improvement.
