초등학교 일반교사의 특수교육대상자 선정 의뢰 과정에서의 경험

국문 초록

본 연구는 초등학교 일반교사들이 학급에서 특수교육대상자로 의심되는 아동을 발견하여 의뢰하는 과정에서 했던 경험을 알아보고 앞으로 그 과정을 겪을 교사들에게 시사점을 제시하고자 하였다. 관련 경험이 있는 7명의 초등학교 일반교사를 인터뷰하였으며, 자료는 설명적 내용 분석 방법과 전통적 내용 분석 방법으로 분석하였다. 자료 분석 결과 3개의 상위범주와 6개의 하위범주, 18개의 의미범주가 도출되었다. 연구 결과, 참여자들은 기초학습 능력 및 상호작용 능력이 또래와 차이가 나는 학생을 주의 깊게 관찰하여 그 학생에게 보충지도를 했음에도 성취가 낮거나 습득이 느릴 경우 특수교육대상자로 의심하였고, 학부모(보호자)에게 이와 관련된 내용을 전달할 때 판단 오류 가능성, 학부모(보호자)의 부정적인 반응에 대한 걱정 등 부정적인 감정을 경험하는 경우가 많았다. 특수교육대상자로 의심되는 학생을 지도할 때 참여자들은 동료 교사 및 연수에서 도움을 얻었으며, 선정 의뢰 과정이 성공하지 못할 것으로 생각하고 있었음에도 특수교육대상자로 의심되는 학생을 발견하여 의뢰를 권유하는 역할을 했다. 앞으로도 일반교사는 학급에서 특수교육이 필요한 학생을 발견하는 역할을 할 가능성이 크지만, 현재의 시스템으로는 일반교사가 학생을 조기에 발견하여 적절한 교육적 조치를 할 수 있는 여건이 마련되어 있다고 보기 어렵다. 따라서 이를 바탕으로 본 연구의 제한점과 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate elementary school teachers’ experiences during the process of referring a student suspected of requiring special education needs and to suggest implications for teachers who will go through the process in the future. Using qualitative research method, data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed by explanatory content analysis and traditional content analysis method. As a results of this study, First, the participants carefully observed students whose basic learning ability was different from that of their peers, who had difficulty interacting with peers, and then they suspected them students with special needs. Second, the participants perceived themselves as non-specialists in special education, so they discussed with fellow elementary school teachers and special education teachers and received help from training. However it was not easy for elementary school teachers and special education teachers to cooperate, and as not special education teacher, participants felt uncomfortable with the training content centered on special education teachers. Third, the participants felt it was difficult to communicate with students’ parents (guardians) throughout the process due to the expression of unpleasant feelings from parents (guardians). Fourth, Some participants pointed out a problem in the system that teachers could only request after discovery and a procedural problem that prevented the teacher from participating in the selection process after discovery. In conclusion, Participants had negative experiences throughout the process. Although the participants thought that the process would not be successful, they played a role in discovering and recommending students. This will be same in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the points for improvement, improve the system, and provide appropriate support to teachers. Some limitations of this study and some suggestions for future research were provided.
