노인들의 심리적 어려움, 대처 및 심리상담 인식에 관한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 노인들의 심리적 어려움과 대처방식에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 심리상담 인식에 관한 본질과 의미가 무엇인지 이해하는 것이다. 이를 위해 심리상담 경험이 없는 65세 이상 노인 7명을 심층면담하고, Giorgi의 현상학적 연구방법으로 자료를 분석하였다. 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인들이 겪는 심리적 어려움의 핵심적 구성요소는 ‘젊은 시절에 감당하기 힘든 고비를 겪음’, ‘노년기에 접어들면서 신체적·심리적 어려움을 경험함’으로 나타났다. 둘째, 노인들이 겪는 심리적 어려움에 대한 대처와 심리상담 인식의 핵심 구성요소는 ‘심리적 어려움을 마음에 묻고 살아감’, ‘자신의 삶보다 자녀의 삶을 우선시함’, ‘내·외적 자원을 활용하여 어려움을 해소함’, ‘자신 앞에 놓인 삶에 순응함’, ‘심리상담에 대한 인식이 부족함’, ‘심리상담에 대한 욕구가 내재되어 있음’으로 나타났다. 셋째, 노인들의 심리상담 인식의 본질은 ‘삶에서 어려움을 스스로 해결해오면서 심리상담의 인식이 부족하고, 동기는 낮지만 욕구를 내재하고 있음’이다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의와 제한점 및 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand the essence and meaning of psychological counseling awareness based on the understanding of psychological difficulties and coping methods of the elderly. For this purpose, seven elderly aged 65 or older with no experience in psychological counseling were interviewed and the data were analyzed by phenomenological research method. The results are as follows. First, the core components of the psychological difficulties experienced by the elderly were “Experience of hardships that are difficult to cope with in their youth” and “Experiencing physical and psychological difficulties as they enter old age”. Second, the core components of coping with psychological difficulties and psychological counseling awareness in the elderly were “Living with psychological difficulties in mind,” “Putting the life of the child ahead of their own life,” “Solving difficulties by utilizing internal and external resources,” “Adapting to the life in front of them,” “Lack of awareness about psychological counseling,” and “Insistent desire for psychological counseling”. Third, the essence of the elderly's perception of psychological counseling is that “Resolving life hardships on their own throughout their life, their awareness of psychological counseling did not incline, hence the low motivation, but there were inherent desires.” Finally, the significance and limitations of this study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
