김하기 소설에 나타난 국가의 규율 권력과 비전향 장기수들의 대응 양상

국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 김하기의 소설 완전한 만남을 중심으로 국가의 규율 권력과 비전향 장기수들의 대응 양상을 고찰하는 데 있다. 본 연구는 세 가지 관점에서 논의를 진행하였다. 첫째, 감옥의 비전향 장기수들에게 가해진 국가 규율 권력의 메커니즘을 다루었다. ｢살아있는 무덤｣과 ｢미귀(未歸)｣에서 알 수 있듯이 국가의 규율 권력은 감옥 안의 죄수인 ‘떡봉이’들을 동원하여 비전향 장기수에게 혹독한 고문과 탄압을 하였다. 이에 굴하지 않은 비전향 장기수들에게는 성폭행을 통해 강제적으로 전향을 유도하였다. 신체형 처벌인 고문이 가해지면서 비전향 장기수 대부분이 전향하였으며, 살아남은 이들은 0.75평의 독방에 보내지거나 병고에 시달렸다. 따라서 1970년대 감옥에 갇힌 비전향 장기수에게 자발적인 전향은 없었다. 끝까지 전향하지 않은 장기수들은 국가 권력이 바뀐 2000년에 와서 북송되었다. 둘째, 비전향 장기수들의 비전향 원인을 탐구하였다. 비전향 장기수들이 견지했던 비전향의 원인은 ｢뿌리 내리기｣와 ｢살아있는 무덤｣에서 알 수 있듯이 과거에 고착화된 이념에 대한 신념 때문이다. 김하기 소설에서 끝까지 전향하지 않은 비전향 장기수는 20~30년 전의 기억을 간직하였고, 반공 통치에 굴복하는 것은 신념을 저버리는 것으로 인식하였다. 그러나 이 과정에서 비전향 장기수들이 보여준 포스트 페스툼은 이념의 굴레에서 벗어나지 못하는 자의 비극을 보여준다. 셋째, 감옥에 갇힌 남한 장기수들의 사상 전환을 분석하였다. 소설에 나타난 남한 장기수들의 사상 전환은 주체의 성찰 없이 우발적으로 그려지고 있다. ｢첫눈 내리는 날｣의 원기는 간첩을 악독한 사람들로 인식하였지만 이상우를 통해 사상 전환을 이루고, 자신들을 노예로 만드는 국가 체제에 맞서 싸우고자 한다. 이러한 사상 전환은 ｢노역장이야기｣의 김영배나 ｢해미｣의 진형우 등에서도 볼 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 남한 장기수의 사상 전환이 비전향 장기수와의 대화를 통해 이루어지면서 인물형상화는 단순화되고 서사 또한 약화된다.

영문 초록

In this thesis three aspects are studied on unconverted political long-term prisoners based on the novel, Perfect Encounter written by Kim Ha-ki. First, the control force mechanism poured to the unconverted political prisoners became severe in 1970s. As we can see in the novels, Living Grave and Absence over Leave, the government power enhanced severe torturing and oppressing to the prisoners by using Tteokbongih who are also the prisoners in the same jail. To those who reject to convert they induce them to do even by executing sexual violence. As the corporal punishment prevails, most of the unconverted political prisoners have to convert but the prisoners who rejected converting have to be contained in the smaller cells or have to suffer diseases. Thus spontaneous converting couldn't happen in the 1970s, and they who resisted converting to the last minute were sent to the North in 2000 when the government power changed. Second, the cause the unconverted political long-term prisoners took hold on was studied. It was their belief and conscience rooted on the past ideology as shown in the novels, Rooting and Living Grave. In Kim Ha-ki's novels the main characters resist converting though they have been in jail for 20 or 30 years. They persist on their belief as they consider it surrendering to the anti-communism propaganda. However, their inclination into the past golden days shows their limits of ideology. Lastly, the converting of the long-term prisoners from the South was studied. The novel describes the converting without their self-examination but accidentally. Won-ki in the novel The First Snow Day thinks the spy from the North very vicious but after meeting Lee Sang-woo he tries to fight against the government which makes the people like him slaves. This kind of changes we can see in Kim Young-bae in the novel Workplace Story and Jin Hyung-woo in Hae-Mi. However, as this kind of change happens through conversations with the non-converting long-term prisoners, the description and narrative of the novel became weak.
