국문 초록

이 글은 지식 추구 활동 안에 지식 추구의 가능성과 지속성을 보장하는 절대 수준의 형이상학적 힘이 있다는 점을 설명하는 데 목적이 있다. 그것은 성리학의 ‘이일분수’(理 一分殊)와 플라톤의 ‘에로스’(eros)에서 시사받은 것이다. 먼저 ‘이일분수’에 함의된 심성의 ‘내재’와 ‘초월’적 측면은 지식 추구를 통한 마음의 발달 과정을 형이상학적 힘의 작용으로 해석할 가능성을 제시한다. 나아가, 분수리(分殊理)와 그것의 심성론적 대응물인 기질지성(氣質之性)의 교섭은 지식 추구 과정에서 작용하는 형이상학적 힘의 운동을 구체화한다. 한편, 플라톤이 ｢파이드로스｣에서 에로스를 ‘신적 광기’로 규정한 것은 지식 추구의 형이상학적 힘의 새로운 특징을 부각시킨다. 신적 광기로서의 에로스는 지식을 매개로 한 교사와 학생의 관계 안에 개인이 거부하거나 거역할 수 없는 초월적 힘이 실지로 있을 뿐만 아니라 그것이 어떠한 모습으로 가시화되는지를 보여준다. 지식 추구의 추진력을 형이상학적 차원에서 논의하는 것은 지식 추구를 통한 심성 함양의 기제를 역동적으로 설명해주며, 나아가 교과 교육의 초월적 성격을 확립하는 데 기여한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine that there is an absolute metaphysical force that makes the pursuit of knowledge possible in subject matter education. This was suggested by Chu Hsi’s doctrine of ‘Li-Yi-Fen-Shu’(理一分殊: The Principle is one and is distributed in different things) and Plato’s ‘eros’. The concept of ‘Li-Yi-Fen-Shu’ which implies the ‘immanental’ and ‘transcendental’ aspects of ‘Principle’(理) indicates that the developmental process of the mind in the pursuit of knowledge can be possible only on the metaphysical ground. Furthermore, the mutual transaction between ‘the principle of things’(分殊理) and ‘the physical nature’(氣質之性) shows the way metaphysical force works in pursuit of knowledge. According to Phaedrus, Plato defines eros as a ‘divine madness’. Eros as a divine madness indicates the fact that there is a transcendental force that humans cannot deny or disobey in the activity of the pursuit of knowledge and how the transcendental force is realized in the experiential dimension. The discussion of ‘driving force in pursuit of knowledge’ in the light of the metaphysical aspect shows the process of cultivating the mind in the pursuit of knowledge from a dynamic point of view and reveals the transcendental aspect of subject matter education.
