국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 중년여성의 배우자 사별과 애도 경험의 의미를 이해하고자 하는 것이다. 연구참여자는 배우자와 사별한 지 6년 이상 된 중년여성 4명이며, 자료수집을 위한 심층 면담은 2021년 7월부터 2021년 10월까지 4회 실시되었다. 연구방법으로서 내러티브 탐구를 사용하여 중년여성의 배우자 사별 과정과 애도 경험을 이해하고 그 의미를 탐색하였다. 본 연구의 결과, 내러티브의 주제는 배우자 사별 이전의 삶에서 ‘차별 그리고 희생’, ‘자의 반, 타의 반의 떠밀린 결혼’, ‘위기 속에서 지키고 싶었던 가정’, 사별 경험에서 ‘준비되지 않은 이별’, ‘미안해! 고마워! 사랑해!’, 그리고 애도 경험에서 ‘타인 시선의 괴로움 그리고 죄책감’, ‘삶의 무게를 홀로 감당하기’, ‘재구성되는 관계’, ‘스스로 찾은 치유와 회복의 길’, ‘주도적인 삶을 살아가기’로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 배우자와 사별한 중년여성의 경험과 의미에 대한 이해를 제공하여 이들의 회복을 돕는 애도 상담 및 부부·가족상담에서 효과적인 상담을 제공하는 데 기여 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Objectives: This study aims to understand the meaning of spousal bereavement and mourning experiences among middle-aged women. Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted in order to collect data from four middle-aged women who had experienced the death of their spouse for more than six years, over four separate interviews with each respondent. As a research method, narrative inquiry was applied. Results: The research revealed the following thematic elements: “discrimination and sacrifice”, “half-pushed marriage”, and “family that needed to protect in times of crisis” in the life before the spouse’s death; “unprepared parting” and “I’m sorry! Thanks! I love you!” from the experience of spousal bereavement; and “the pain and guilt by other people’s viewpoints”, “bearing the weight of life alone”, “reconstructing relationships”, “the path to self-discovery of healing and recovery”, and “leading my own life” in the mourning experience. Conclusions: This research will contribute to providing effective engagement in the counseling of mourning marital and family recovery by providing an understanding of the experiences and meanings of middle-aged women who were bereaved of their spouses.
