장애유아의 숲유치원 경험에 대한 어머니의 인식과 요구 탐구

국문 초록

본 연구는 숲유치원에 자녀를 보내고 있는 장애유아 어머니들의 숲유치원 및 자녀의 변화에 대한 인식과 요구를 개별 심층면접을 통해 질적으로 분석하는데 목적이 있으며, 이를 통해 숲유치원이 장애유아에게 주는 의미와 더불어 장애유아의 숲유치원 적응을 돕는데 필요한 기초자료를 제공하는데 의의를 두었다. 그 결과, 첫째, 장애유아 어머니들은 대체적으로 숲유치원에 대한 사전지식 및 이해가 낮았다. 그리고 숲유치원이 장애유아는 갈 수 없는 일반유아만이 다니는 곳으로 생각하고 있다가 숲유치원을 다닌 후 숲이 장애유아에게 주는 진정한 치료의 의미를 인식하고 보다 많은 장애유아들이 숲체험의 기회를 가질 수 있도록 추천해주고 싶어 하였다. 둘째, 어머니들은 장애가 있는 자녀가 숲유치원을 다니고 난 후 기대하지 못했던 긍정적인 변화가 나타나고 있음에 놀라워하고 있었다. 셋째, 이러한 인식을 바탕으로 어머니들은 장애유아의 안전과 관련하여 보조인력을 더 요구하고 있었으며, 더 많은 시간을 장애유아가 숲에서 보내기를 희망하고 있었다. 그리고 장애유아가 편안하고 안전하게 다닐 수 있도록 숲의 환경적인 정비를 요구하고 있었다. 이러한 결과에 대한 교육적 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the meaning of a forest kindergarten program using in-depth interviews with mothers of young children with disabilities. The subjects were seven mothers of young children with disabilities who have sent their children to forest kindergarten. Initially, they thought that only young children without any disabilities were allowed to go to forest kindergarten. After their children attended forest kindergarten, they realized the positive response young children with disabilities had to the forest kindergarten environment. Second, the mothers were amazed to see their children undergo unexpected positive changes after going to forest kindergarten. Third, the mothers asked for more personnel, who could be responsible for their children s safety, and hoped that their children would be able to spend more time in the forest setting. In addition, they considered it necessary to make arrangements for young children with disabilities to get around in the forest in a safe and convenient way. Some implications for education and forest kindergarten activities for young children with disabilities were suggested.
