국문 초록

본 연구는 지적장애자녀의 생애주기에 따라 가족이 경험하는 경험의 본질과 지원 욕구에 대해 살펴봄으로써, 지적장애인 가족을 위한 실효성 있는 정책적, 실천적 과제를 탐색하고자 하였다. 질적연구방법 중 포커스집단인터뷰를 통해 지적장애자녀의 부모 한 집단과 이들에게 서비스를 제공하는 복지관련 전문가 한 집단으로 나누어 연구를 진행하였다. 연구결과 지적장애인의 영, 유아기에는 치료와 재활에 집중하는 시기이지만 가족 내 남편이나 친척 등의 지원 뿐 만 아니라 공적 지원체계가 매우 부족한 시기로 나타났으며, 학령기에는 공교육 체계의 도움을 받게 되지만, 부모의 교육기대가 현실보다지나치게 높거나 주관적이어서 현 공교육 제도의 수준과 맞지 않거나 기대와 부조화 되는 문제가 나타났다. 청년 및 성년기에는 전환교육의 부재로 인해 자립이나 직업활동을 위한 기반을 마련하지 못함으로 인해 장애자녀의 무역할의 문제, 사회적응 및 통합의 문제가 가족에게 큰 어려움으로 작용하는 것으로 드러났다. 성인기를 거쳐 노인기를 맞이하는 시기에는 공식적 서비스지원이 거의 존재하지 않음으로써 가족의 돌봄 부담과 부모 사후에 대한 걱정이 더욱 커지는 것으로 드러났다. 결국 생애주기를거쳐 요구되는 발달과업이나 욕구는 가족 개별단위로 해결해나가야 하는 문제로 인식하는 것으로 나타났으며, 영아기 및 성인기에는 공공과 민간의 관심이 다른 생애주기에 비해 상대적으로 더 부족한 것으로 드러났다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 정책적, 실천적 서비스 방안에 대해 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims at exploring the family experiences and support needs through life cycle of children with intellectual disability. Completed by a qualitative method, 2 focus group interviews, it resulted that the infant and young child stage focused on the therapy and rehabilitative activities with the help of not much formal social service not to mention the support for the family. During the school age, from primary to high school, the family of the children with intellectual disability benefited from the public special education system but the expectation of the family didn t reach as high as they anticipated from the special education of the nation. At young adult and middle age stage, the lack of system for independence and occupational activities seemed to be the main issue which caused a lot of concerns and worries of the family of the person with intellectual disability. However the most considerable concern related to the early aging and increased care needs of the aged with disability. They didn t catch the attention of the public nor private services and have no sufficient care due to the aging and death of their main carers. In conclusion, the needs and tasks through the life cycle of the person with intellectual disability are considered to tackle by individual family, not by the public system. With the result of the study, a number of practical suggestions have been made.
