세월호 유가족의 자녀상실 경험연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 세월호 자녀상실 유가족들을 대상으로 한 심층면접을 통하여 이들이 자녀를 상실하고 겪는 심리·신체적 현상과 심리사회적 현상이 무엇이며 또한이들은 자녀상실의 고통에 어떻게 대처하고 있는지를 밝히는 것이다. 이를 위해 본연구는 세월호 참사로 자녀를 잃은 안산 단원고 학부모 8명을 대상으로 Colaizzi의현상학적 연구 방법을 적용함으로써 질적 연구를 진행하였다. 분석결과 150개의구성의미와 41개의 주제, 14개의 주제군이 도출되었다. 본 연구에서 자녀상실 세월호 유가족의 심리·신체적 경험은 ‘청천벽력의 부고에 망연자실’, ‘처참한 시신을 수습하는 단장지애(斷腸之哀)’, ‘참담한 사별에 애끓는 통곡’, ‘자식 잃은 부모의 한 맺힌 회한’, ‘모든 세계가 소멸한 것 같은 허무’, ‘정지된 시간 속의 해리된 고통’, ‘남은자들의 생존자 죄책감’으로 나타났다. 심리사회적 경험으로는 ‘대인관계의 단절감’, ‘주변의 비난에 의한 사회적 트라우마’, ‘공적 기관의 무책임에 대한 분노’로 밝혀졌으며 자녀상실의 고통에 대한 대처로는 ‘치유와 성숙을 위한 결단’, ‘유가족 사회화활동으로 애도’, ‘연대를 통한 치유’, ‘비탄 중 하나님을 의지’로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to clarify what emotional and physical phenomena and psychosocial phenomena are experienced by bereaved families who lost their children in the sinking of the Sewol ferry, and through in–depth interviews, discover how they cope with the pain over their children’s death. To this end, this study adopts a qualitative study using a Colaizzi’s phenomenological approach on eight parents of Sewol victims who were students of Danwon High School in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. Our analysis elicited 150 semantic compositions, 41 subjects and 14 subject groups. It was found that emotional and physical phenomena demonstrated by the family of victims of the Sewol disaster were ‘stupefaction due to the sudden death of children,’ ‘heartwrenching grief of collecting disfigured bodies,’ ‘heart–breaking wail of parting from their children,’ ‘resentment of parents who lost children,’ ‘vanity that the whole world vanished,’ ‘distressing agony as if time stopped,’ and ‘survivor’s guilt for being alive.’ Psychosocial phenomena revealed by grieving parents are ‘feeling loss of connection with others,’ ‘trauma due to people blaming victims,’ and ‘anger against irresponsible public organizations.’ The parents coped with pain over their children’s death by ‘resolving to heal and mature,’ ‘mourning through social activities,’ ‘healing through solidarity,’ and ‘relying on God amid grief.’
