The Effects of the Mathematics Room Escape Program on Middle School Students’ Interest and Attitude in Learning Mathematics

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 학생들이 즐겁게 여기는 수학 체험 활동을 통하여 수학 학습에 대한 흥미와 태도를 긍정적으로 신장시킬 수 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 학생들이 좋아하는 방탈출 게임을 이용한 수학 방탈출 프로그램을 학생들에게 체험하도록 했다. 수학 방탈출 프로그램을 체험한 후 학생들의 수학 학습에 대한 흥미와 태도에 어떤 변화가 있는지 살펴보고자 했다. 이를 위해 수학 방탈출 프로그램이 학생들의 수학 학습에 대한 흥미와 태도에 어떤 영향을 미치는가? 라는 연구문제를 설정하였다. 본 연구에서는 A 중학교에서 수학을 어려워하거나 싫어하지만 수학 학습을 잘하고 싶어하는 의욕이 있는 학생들 중에서 선정하여 그들을 대상으로 수학 방탈출 프로그램을 체험하도록 하였다. 체험 워크숍에 신청한 학생들은 신청서를 작성하였으며, 체험 워크숍에 참여한 후 소감문을 작성하도록 하였다. 신청서와 소감문에는 연구문제와 직결되는 문항을 포함함으로써 학생들의 반응을 통하여 수학 방탈출 프로그램의 영향을 알아볼 수 있도록 했다. 본 연구의 결과 방탈출 게임을 이용한 활동을 통하여 수학을 학습할 때, 학생들의 수학 학습에 대한 흥미와 태도를 포함한 정의적 측면에서 긍정적인 변화가 있었다는 결론을 얻었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to find out whether Mathematics experience activities that students enjoy affect their interest and attitude in learning Mathematics. To this end, the research problem was established: How does the Mathematics Room Escape Program affect students’ interest and attitude in learning Mathematics? In this study, we developed the Program, and let students in A middle school experience it. Participants filled out an application and pre-questionnaire at first, after experiencing the program, they completed their review and past-questionaaire. As comparing pre- and past- questionnaire, student responses were classified using an assessment framework and analyzing the contents of what they reported about their interest in and attitude towards learning Mathematics. As a result of this study, the following conclusions were drawn: Learning Mathematics through activities using the room escape game resulted in positive changes in the affective domain, including students’ interest in and attitude towards learning Mathematics.
