국문 초록

스피노자는 특별히 교육이나 아동 발달에 관한 이론을 제시한 바 없고, 아이 역시 그저 무지하고 정념에 지배되는 우중과 같은 존재로 취급할 뿐이다. 그러나 그는 인간의 전 생애를 ‘유아기 신체를 다른 신체로 바꾸려는 노력’에 비유하면서 끝없는 성장의 전망과 교육의 과제 역시 시사한다. 이 글은 스피노자 철학으로부터 인간주의적 가상을 탈피한 교육의 상을 도출할 수 있다고 보고, 특히 그의 기계론적 신체론을 중심으로 다음 세 가지를 보여준다. 첫째, 개체는 내외부에 수립되는 관계들의 조합이며, 개체의 역량은 이 관계의 풍부함과 변이가능성으로 가늠된다. 둘째, 교육은 학생의 역량 강화를 돕는 활동으로, 교육자는 학생의 내면을 읽거나 선의를 베풀려 하기보다는 개체 안에 작동 중인 변용들이 다르게 발휘될 수 있도록 관계롤 조정하고 기회를 제공하는 편이 좋다. 끝으로, 교육자와 학생 사이의 인간적 관계는 거기서 가동될 수 있는 정서모방 메커니즘으로 인해 위험할 수 있으며 다른 것을 통해 매개되는 편이 낫다.

영문 초록

Spinoza does not present any particular theories about education or child development; instead, he treats a child like an ignorant, passion-dominated vulgar man. However, he goes a step further to compare the entire human life to ‘an effort to transform the body of infancy into another body’, suggesting the endless potential of growth that each individual possesses and the role that education plays. This article explores the role of education, broken away from humanistic illusion, as illustrated in Spinoza s mechanistic theory of body, and draws the following three conclusions. First, an individual is a combination of relationships established both internally and externally, and the individual s power is measured by the richness and variability of these relationships. Second, to aid the growth of students, rather than trying to read their mind or to show them good intentions, it is better for a teacher to nurture their relationships with surrounding bodies or provide them with further opportunities in such a way that their bodily affections can be disposed differently. Finally, the human relationship between educators and students can be dangerous owing to the imitation of affects and requires a careful approach.
