국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 서사적 설명의 특징을 이론적으로 고찰하고, 서사적 설명의 기본 구조를 과학 교과서의 내용을 분석하는 데 적용하여 그 유용성을 검토하는 것이었다. 관련 문헌을 고찰하여 서사적 설명의 특징과 기본 구조를 파악하였으며, 이를 5종의 통합과학 교과서에 수록된 엘니뇨에 관한 설명을 분석하는 데 시험적으로 적용하였다. 그 결과, 서사적 설명은 과학적 설명의 한 유형으로서 인과적으로 연계된 사건들을 시간적인 흐름 속에서 서술하는 특징이 있었으며, 초기 상태-사건 또는 행동-최종 상태를 기본 구조로 하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또, 서사적 설명의 기본 구조에 따라 분석한 엘니뇨에 관한 설명은 교과서마다 특징이 있었으며, 교과서들 간에 공통점과 차이점이 있었다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 서사적 설명의 기본 구조가 서사적 설명에 관한 심층적인 연구와 교육적 응용을 위한 유용한 도구가 될 수 있음을 확인하였고, 앞으로 서사적 설명에 관한 후속 연구를 수행하고 학생들의 과학 학습에 효과적인 서사적 설명을 개발하려는 노력이 필요하다고 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to theoretically review the characteristics of narrative explanation and to examine the usefulness of the basic structure of narrative explanation by applying the structure in analyzing content of science textbooks. Literature review was conducted to identify the characteristics and basic structure of narrative explanation, and the result was applied to a trial analysis of explanations of El Liño in 5 Integrated Science textbooks. It was revealed that narrative explanation was a type of scientific explanation which was an account of a causally linked events in a temporal sequence and that its basic structure comprises an initial state, action or event, and final state. The basic structure of narrative explanation, as applied to the analysis of textbook explanations of El Liño, uncovered the features of each textbook as well as the similarities and differences among the textbooks. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the basic structure of narrative explanation was a useful tool for in-depth inquiries and educational applications of narrative explanation. It was also suggested that further studies of narrative explanation and the development of narrative explanations supportive of student learning of science were necessary.
