중년후기 성인의 배움 활동에 나타난 의미와 진로적응에 관한 질적 탐구

국문 초록

본 연구는 중년후기 성인들이 경험한 배움 활동의 의미를 탐색하고 그 속에서 나타난 진로적응을 이해하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 구성주의 진로발달이론을 바탕으로 7명 남녀의 배움 경험과 진로 이야기를 인터뷰하였으며, 이들이 인식하는 배움 활동의 의미와 이를 통한 진로적응에 관한 기대를 해석하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 참여자들의 배움 활동은 공통적으로 직무․진로 탐색을 위한 배움이라는 특성이 있었다. 둘째, ‘성공 경험’과 ‘사회적 지지’가 사회 환원의 실천적 쓰임새를 위한 추동 요인이었으며, 중년후기 성인들에게 있어서 학습자의 역할은 소홀히 할 수 없는 진로발달과업임을 확인하였다. 셋째, 배움 활동은 진로를 찾아가게 하는 ‘나침반’으로서 배움 활동과 진로적응이 상호 관련됨을 함축하였다. 종합하면, 중년후기 성인들에게 있어서 배움 활동은 각자 삶의 가치와 의미를 추구할 뿐만 아니라 미래의 진로를 준비할 수 있는 디딤돌임을 알 수 있었다. 향후 본 연구가 중년후기 성인의 자아 탐색과 진로적응을 지원할 수 있는 성인학습 연구의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to understand the meaning of erudition activities of late-midlife and to understand their career adaptation. For this purpose, we interviewed 7 male and female in terms of their career stories, applied qualitative research method based on the career construction theory. This paper especially focused on meaning of erudition activities in terms of career adaptation, and therefore we interpreted how erudition activities effected on future career adaptation for adults in late mid-life. First, the main purpose of erudition is to explore their career path and improve work ability. Second, erudition activities is instrumental in developing work ability and exploring career path especially those who are in late-midlife. Third, erudition activities and career adjustment have correlation to each other. Erudition activity helps map out one’s career path like as a ‘compass’. This study imply that erudition activities to adults in late mid-life is not only important to prepare their future career path but also find out values and meaning of life time for adults in late mid-life. This study is expected to be useful as a basic data for self–discovery and career adaptation of late-midlife.
