영문 초록

Purpose: Recently, moderate to high-dose of statin were recommended for diabetic patients. However, it is not clear whether it is appropriate to all patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of low-dose statins for Korean diabetic patients. Methods: We analyzed a retrospective data in single diabetic center that consisted of Korean patients with diabetes who had been prescribed any of the low-dose statins (atorvastatin 10 mg, pitavastatin 2 mg, pravastatin 10 mg, or simvastatin 10 mg). We analyzed their lipid and safety profiles before and 3 months after each statin therapy. Results: After 3 months statin therapy, mean low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol reduction was -38.6% (interquartile range, -49.3% to -34.3%). Atorvastatin 10 mg (n=61), pitavastatin 2 mg (n=60), pravastatin 20 mg (n=63), and simvastatin 10 mg (n=64) reduced LDL-cholesterol level by 38.1%, 39.2%, 41.6%, and 38.4% respectively. Among the total subjects, 70.2% of the patients achieved a target LDL-cholesterol level ＜100 mg/dL, 68.8%, 72.4%, 70.6%, and 67.8% of the patients achieved a target in atorvastatin 10 mg, pitavastatin 2 mg, pravastatin 10 mg, and simvastatin 10 mg respectively. Conclusion: A low-dose statin was enough to manage LDL-cholesterol level in most Korean diabetic patients. The efficacies of those statins were higher than expected in Korean compared to Caucasian.
