여성 교사 연구에 대한 젠더 분석: 교육 연구에서 여성 교사는 어떻게 표상되는가?

국문 초록

본 연구는 교직의 여초 현상이 문제적인 교육 현상으로 논의되는 시대, 교육 연구에서 여성 교사는 어떻게 표상되는가라는 질문에서 출발하였다. 이를 위해 교직의 여초 현상이 보편화되었던 2000년 이후 이루어진 여성 교사 관련 연구를 젠더 관점을 활용하여 분석했다. 분석 대상이 되었던 여성 교사 연구 중 가장 많은 수를 차지하는 것은 여성 교사의 체육수업과 관련된 연구였다. 이 연구들에서 여성 교사는 신체 활동과 운동 기능에 미숙하여 체육 수업에 어려움을 겪는 존재들이었다. 여성의 신체 활동 능력이 남성에 비하여 열등하다는 성별 고정관념이 이 연구들에도 유사하게 반영되어 있다. 여성 교사의 가정생활과 교직수행의 관련성에 관한 연구들도 적지 않았는데, 이 연구들은 여성 교사가 가정 내 어머니역할과 교직을 동시에 수행해야하는 상황의 어려움을 드러내었다. 이 연구들이 전제하고 있는 여성 교사의 성역할은 어머니 역할과 육아였다. 이러한 인식 또한 여성의 기본 역할을모성 수행으로 보는 성역할 고정관념의 연장선에 있다고 할 수 있다. 여성의 특성을 신체 활동의 미숙함으로 보고, 여성 역할을 모성 수행으로 규정하는 이러한 고정관념은 학교 내에서 여성 교사가 교사로서의 전문성을 갖고 커리어를 쌓아가는 데있어 부정적인 여건으로 작용할 가능성이 높다. 담론의 힘이 실제 학교 현장의 인식과 지식의 틀에 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 고려할 때, 교육 연구자와 학교 현장의 교육자들은 스스로의 성역할 고정관념과 편견을 성찰하고 젠더 감수성을 고양시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색해야할 것이다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study is to analyze how female teachers are represented in the field of education research and investigate the discourses on female teachers using the gender perspective. This study explored the research papers that were published from 2000 year. The most frequent reports of the female teachers were that they had difficulties in the physical educational (PE) class. These studies commonly assumed that female teachers suffered from inadequate physical ability than male teachers in the PE class. The other issue is to maintain the balance between job and family. Several studies emphasized that female teachers frequently experienced uncontrollable circumstances in their working places while they nourished their children. These studies mostly focused on motherhood in a family that is one of the biases to female teacher. These approaches could be associated with the traditional gender role which is required of the female in society. These traditional gender stereotype can negatively influence professionalism of female teacher and their careers. Therefore, Educational researchers and school educators should reflect the gender stereotypes and draw up measures to improve the gender sensitivity because the discourses related to the fixed gender issues to female teachers would negatively impact to the recognition and knowledge in education fields.
