노자의 천지인(天地人)사상과 생태교육적 함의

국문 초록

노자는 2500여 년 전 우주만물의 근원을‘도’로 보고 그 ‘도’로부터 연유한 천지인의 일원론적 연관성과 인간의 생태적 행동규범을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 천지인사상에서 도출된 ‘복귀자연’과 ‘무위자연’의 개념을 통해 21세기에 적합한 새로운 생태교육적 함의를 탐구해 보고자 한다. 특히 인간을 천지(天地)와의 상호 연관 속에서 바라보는 인간관을 통해 노자는 무엇을 발견하려고 했고, 그것을 실현하기 위한 생태윤리와 실천 방법은 어떤 것인가를 알아보도록 한다. 노자사상의 목표는 인간 삶에 대한 근본적인 반성을 통하여 무위적 자연의 도를 터득함으로써 우주의 한 쪽을 차지하고 있는 인간이 무욕의 선한 본성을 회복하는 데 있다. 노자는 도를 윤리교육과 연계하여 체계적으로 언급한 바는 없으나, 그로부터 오늘날 과도한 인간중심적 교육행태를 극복하고 새로운 생태교육의 철학적 기초를 정립할 수 있다. 노자의 천지인사상은 현대인들의 생태파괴를 조장하는 물질적 욕망에서 비롯되었음을 비판적으로 성찰할 수 있게 한다. 그리고 삶 속에서 과욕하지 않고 만물을 크게 사랑하는 자세(慈), 과욕하지 않고 검소하게 사는 자세(儉), 공손하고 겸손한 자세(謙)의 생태윤리를 제시하고 있다. 이는 현대를 살아가는 학생들이 실천해야 할 매우 소중한 생태교육적 덕목이다.

영문 초록

Lao-tzu asserted that the origin of the universe is “Tao.” He also based his rule of movement in universe on “Tao” to clarify it and suggested “nothingness” as an ideal norm of human being. This study is to ponder on the meaningful philosophy in the twenty-first century by examining Lao-tzu’s ‘Heaven-Earth-Human’ thought, which was derived from his “Tao” philosophy and then to explore the eco-educational philosophy, founded on “Tao.” In terms of educational theory, the study specifically focuses on the purpose and findings of his “Return to Nature” idea and unveils the attributes of his educational philosophy to resolve critical problems in the ecosystem. The goal of Lao-tzu is the natural recognition of Tao by reflecting human life and the restore of human nature as a mere component of the universe. He did not mention education related to his “Tao” idea. However, such concepts as ‘Return to Nature,’ which is tightly associated with ‘Heaven-Earth-Human’ idea, and ‘nothingness’ definitely help to expand the room for eco-educational discourse. Educational philosophy of nothingness demonstrates that artificial feats of human being to satisfy his or her convenience and greed have actually caused the crises of environment and ecosystem. Moreover, the idea encourages the attitude of compassion on everything, moderation, and humility and the educational practice of these ideas. This is one of the most important eco-educational principals in the current educational situation.
