지적장애 청년들의 장애 이해를 위한 자기옹호 프로그램 참여 경험에 대한 질적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 지적장애 청년들의 장애 이해를 위한 자기옹호 프로그램 참여 경험이 어떠하였는지 살펴보고자 실시되었다. 이를 위하여 프로그램에 참여한 12명의 지적장애 청년들을 대상으로 실행한 포커스 그룹 면담 및 개인 면담 내용, 수업자료, 연구 일지 등을 지속적 비교분석법을 사용하여 분석하였다. 수집된 자료를 질적으로 분석한 결과 4개의 대주제와 11개의 하위주제가 도출되었으며 도출된 대주제는 다음과 같다. (1) 장애 관련 주제에 대한 높은 관심, (2) 옹호 그룹 차원에서의 지적장애에 대한 긍정적 수용, (3) 개인 차원에서의 지적장애에 대한 부정적 견해 유지, (4) 장애와 관련한 자기옹호 행동. 이러한 연구 결과에 영향을 준 프로그램의 요인을 분석하고 추후 프로그램 개발 시 고려되어야 할 사항들에 대해 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This qualitative study has conducted to investigate on experiences of young adults with intellectual disabilities who participated in self-advocacy programs focusing on disability awareness. To achieve such objective, we carefully selected a group of 12 participants and conducted a series of focus group interviews and in-depth individual interviews. Also, we have gathered all class lectures and daily research logs to analyze results through a continuous comparative analysis method. As a result of analyzing interviews with young adults with intellectual disabilities, participants’activity logs, and researchers’ field notes, 4 themes and 11 sub-themes regarding disability identity emerged. The 4 themes were as follows: (a) increasing interests on topics related to disability, (b) positive acceptance of intellectual disability at an advocating group level, (c) maintenance of negative perspectives on intellectual disability at an individual level, and (d) self-advocating behaviors regarding disability. Based on the findings, several implications were provided to develop more effective disability awareness programs.
