지적장애인의 나이 들어감(Aging)의 경험에 관한 탐색적 연구*

국문 초록

이 연구는 지적장애인들의 나이 들어감의 현상을 알아보고자 한다. 이 연구 에서는 지역사회에서 거주하는 지적장애인의 나이 들어감의 경험이 탐색되었 으며, 지적장애인을 주요 연구 참여자로 하되, 자료의 충분성을 높이고자 가 족과 그룹 홈의 재활교사, 활동보조인을 보완적으로 인터뷰하여 현상에 대한 이해도를 높이고자 하였다. 도출된 연구 결과는 네 개의 주제로, ‘이른 노화, 몸과 마음을 파고듦’, ‘누적되는 사회적 지지의 결여’, ‘나이 들어간다는 것: 죽음에 대한 두려움, 그리고 나이 들어감 현상에 대한 낮은 이해’, ‘부모의 노화로 인한 거주시설에서의 삶을 생각하기 시작함’으로 분석되었다. 이 연구에 탐색적 연구의 한계점이 있다고 할지라도, 지적장애인의 나이 들어감의 경험을 그들의 관점에서 들여다봄으로써 지적장애인의 나이 들어감에 대한 이해 및 관련 연구의 기초 자료로서 그 함의가 크다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to explore the experiences to be old of people with intellectual disabilities. in community. The study used a qualitative research method: the people with intellectual were selected from recommendations of independent living centers of the disabilities and group homes, and interviewed using the individual interview methods. In addition, their families, teachers of group home and personal assistants were interviewed to complement interviews of people with intellectual disabilities in community. This study is composed with the main participants of people with intellectual disabilities and complementary interviewers for plentiful dates and to deeply understand this phenomenon. According to the results, the following main themes were extracted from the experiences of people getting old with intellectual disabilities who live in community:‘Earlier aging penetrated on body and mind’,‘Accumulation in lack of social supports’, What to be getting old: fear of the death, and lack of understanding in getting old , Starting to thinking of lives into the disabled s residential facilities from their parents aging . The limitation of this study is as exploratory research. But the implication of this study results are for basic resource in understanding of their aging, policy making and the actual practices.
