Problems realized by the health staff of day-nursery centers that take care of children with special needs

The purpose of this report is to investigate two points. First one is the problems faced by the staff of day-nurseries that perform health related tasks (hereinafter called “health staff") in day-nurseries that take care of chi1dren with special needs ‘ Second one is the awareness about the tasks that should be performed by nurses and the tasks that shou1d be performed by child-care providers. Health staffs faced following prob1ems. The absence of opportunities of exchanging in formati on with health staff of other day-nurseries, difficultly of responding to consultation inquiries about disabilities fr om parents, lack of clarity about job content of health staff, lack of clarity about the ro1e of health staff and do not know how to handle physically disabled children. The problems realized by health staff of day-nurseries that take care of children with needs were 1imited opportunities of exchanging the information, difficu1ty of handling disabled children and lack of clarity about their work content Most of the respondents recognized that activities one could easily imagine a nurse would usually perform in hospital such as medication, managing the medicines , providing treatment in case of illness or injury, shou1d be handled by nurses However, for lot of items such as items related to disability, taking care of infants and maintaining safety and clea nlin ess of day-nursery are unclear whether it should be handled by nurses or child-care providers
