영문 초록
The variation of the name of the special school can be divided into three steps.
The first step, before the 1950s, the educational organizations for the blind is a place
for the charity and saving the poverty and it was a integrated educational and life
place for both ’ the blind' and the 'deaf. Except for the National Seoul special school
for the blind and the deaf and Busan special school for the blind and the deaf, most
of names has put institution after the name of the place such as the institution of
the blind and the deaf, asylum for the blind and the deaf. In the second stage, 1960s
and 1970s, the blind and the deaf has been separated, and the name institution which
was followed by the name, was substituted by the school. This represents that the
organizations for the poverty savings has been changed into the educational
organization. In the third stage, during 1980s, the special school for the blind was
divided into schools with a school for the blind and schools with a name without
’the blind' and the words including ’the light’ and ’the blindness'. The word ’the
blind' is treated as a discrirninating word, and the case of putting the word 'the
visual 며sabled ’ is increasing. However, the blind themselves, do not have any
repulsion about the word ’the blind' and tries to put the proud and independent
meaning to the name 'the blind'.
