영문 초록

It is pointed out as a prior task of the infonnation-oriented age to eliminate the infonnation lack of a number of women who consider the 21st century's technology merely magic. Especially, unlike such large cities as Seoul, Busan, and Daegu, Gyongbuk has great digital divide due to its big proportion of agricultural villages. This thesis focuses on analyzing the matter of infonnation gap of the local women through infonnation supply rate and present state of women's infonnation orientation in Gyongbuk area. The analysis result is summarized as follows First, differences in the use of the new technologies based on gender appear extremely noticeable in Gyongbuk, greater in comparison with the nation's average. A large part of digital divide between genders can, in general, be explained with the education and cohort effect, which is, in other words, that there are relatively more women than men in tenns of lower education at the old age. Besides, despite that, as confirmed by the analysis, working places are main spots for PC and Internet access, Gyongbuk women's considerably low employment rate is also seen as a major cause of the enlargement of the gap between genders. Second, such gap between genders largely appears in the entire stages, such as access infonnation and conmmnication technologies and the use of the Internet for a wide variety of activities and also shows the biggest contrast in Internet application rate. Rapid process of infonnation-orientation seems to bring out another digital divide based on gender even before the precedent one decreases, resulting in the worries of digital divide aggravation. Lastly, as information-orientation education is predominantly arranged at schools and working places, unemployed female adults comprise the vulnerable class. According to the analysis result, the number of women who took information-orientation education has not so much increased as expected, but the application rate of public institutes has remarkably risen. Therefore, the effect of the policy to solve information gap so far can be proven. In the future, such community access centers as public libraries and women's assembly halls as well as schools in the region will have to be expanded to facilitate the infonnation access by the women from the weak class.
