국문 초록

korea's democracy has developed dramatically and successfully for the past 50 years since the proclamation of the korean constitution. the democracy in korea, however, cannot successfully progress further without the appropriate women's representations and participations in politics. the absence of women's proportional representation in korean politics will lead to the failure of achieving the goals and purposes that the local government elections initially set out to accomplish. recognizing the significance of women's influence and their roles as a major player in the development of regional growth politically and economically, therefore, it is essential to analyze and examine the previously held local government elections from women's perspective. this paper mainly focuses on analyzing the regional election held on june 13, 2002(6.13 election), which resulted in significant changes in law and governmental policies. the purpose of this paper is to suggest mechamisms to improve the women's political and proportional representation in the korean politics. according tio the analysis, it is evident that the women's political participations are just too low, in the sense that it does not correctly represent the woment population in proportion and the importance of women that they play in the regional development. therefore, it is imperative to develop a long-term development plan to find female politicians and a mechanism to proportionally represent women in the politics.
