국문 초록

국제사회는 지속적으로 대북제재를 부과하고 있다. 본 연구는 국제사회의 경제제재가 무역에 미치는 영향을 완화시키기 위한 북한의 대응을 논의하는 데 목적을 둔다. 특히, 북한의 외교 관계가 무역 활동에 어떻게 영향을 미치는지를 중점적으로 다룬다. 본 연구는 김정은 시기인 2012년부터 2019년까지의 기간 (코로나19 이전 시기)에 초점을 맞춰, 국제사회의 제재 부과 이후 전개된 북한의 외교관계와 무역량 간의 상호작용을 논의한다. 본 연구는 회귀 분석, 토빗 분석, PPML 분석 등을 통해 진행되었으며, 연구 결과, 북한의 축전외교를 통한 외교 노력은 북한의 무역량 확대에 통계적으로 유의미한 기여를 하고 있음을 발견하였다. 이는 북한의 외교 관계 강화가 대북제재의 경제적 영향을 완화를 위한 노력이었음을 뒷받침한다. 이러한 연구 결과는 국제사회의 경제제재를 받는 국가들의 대응에 대한 새로운 시각을 제공한다. 또한 제재 대상국이 경제제재로 인해 제약된 상황에서 무역을 촉진하기 위한 외교 채널의 중요성을 제시한다. 본 연구는 외교관계와 무역 간 관계를 조명함으로서 향후 연구기반을 마련하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The international community has consistently imposed sanctions on North Korea. This study aims to discuss North Korea's responses to mitigate the impact of international economic sanctions on trade. Specifically, it focuses on how North Korea's diplomatic relations affect trade activities. This research centers on the period from 2012 to 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, discussing the interaction between North Korea's diplomatic relations and trade volume following the imposition of international sanctions. The study was conducted using regression analysis, Tobit analysis, and Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood (PPML) analysis, and the results reveal that North Korea's diplomatic efforts through congratulatory diplomacy make a statistically significant contribution to expanding its trade volume. This supports the notion that strengthening diplomatic relations has been an effort to mitigate the economic impacts of sanctions on North Korea. These findings provide a new perspective on the responses of countries facing international economic sanctions and highlight the importance of diplomatic channels in promoting trade under the constraints of economic sanctions. The significance of this research lies in its illumination of the relationship between diplomatic relations and trade, thus laying the groundwork for future studies.
