국문 초록

수학적 사고라는 목표를 달성할 방법으로서, 교과 융합형 수업 또는 새 교육과정의 수학과 문화 수업에서 다루는 내용으로 체스 전술 퍼즐과 엔드게임을 다룰 것을 제안한다. 체스의 전술 퍼즐과 엔드게임을 학습할 때 수학적 사고가 이용됨을 가장 직접적으로 증명하기 위해 그 이론들을 수학 정리의 형식으로 진술하고 그 증명을 연역적으로 서술하였다. 체스를 소재로 다룬 수학 문제 몇 개를 소개한 것이 아니라, 체스 엔드게임과 전술 문제들이 그 자체로서 이미 수학 문제임을 느낌이나 통념의 수준을 넘어서 학문적인 눈으로 직접 확인한 것이다. 덧붙여, 이를 학교 현장에 적용한 사례를 통해 앞으로 더 연구해야 할 부분을 짐작해 보았다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to propose an approach to foster mathematical thinking among students by utilizing chess tactical puzzles and endgames as content for interdisciplinary classes or as part of the “Mathematics and Culture” curriculum in the forthcoming National Curriculum reform. To demonstrate that mathematical thinking is an integral part of the process when studying chess tactical puzzles and endgame theory, these concepts are presented in the form of mathematical theorems with deductive proofs. This approach goes beyond merely introducing a few mathematical problems that happen to involve elements of chess. It convincingly establishes that every chess endgame or tactical problem inherently constitutes a rigorous mathematical problem, offering an academically professional perspective that transcends common understanding. Furthermore, based on the outcomes observed in real school settings, this study provides insights into potential avenues for further exploration.
