영국의 수학교육에 대한 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구는 2022 개정 수학과 교육과정을 앞두고 우리나라의 고등학교 수학과 교육과정과 영국의 고등학교 수학과 교육과정과 비교함으로써 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. 영국은 2017년 이후 16세 이후 수학을 강조하고 평가를 개정하였다. 이에 따라 영국의 고등학교 수학교육과정에 해당되는 Key stage 4, Core Maths, A-level의 내용을 살펴보고, 우리나라 고등학교 공동과목, 일반선택과목, <기하> 과목과 비교하였다. 영국에서는 고등학교 단계에서 수학교육을 강조하며 학생들의 수학 선택권을 확대하고 미래사회를 대비하기 위하여 새로운 수학 교과목 및 평가를 함께 개발하여 시행하고, 기존의 A-level 수학 평가를 개선하였다. 또한 주제 중심의 내용을 Key Stage 3부터 고등학교 단계에서도 발전적이고 지속적으로 다루고 다른 영역의 주제와 연결하여 다룸으로써 수학의 내적 외적 연결성이 용이하도록 구성하고 있었다. 이러한 영국의 고등학교 수학교육에 대해 우리나라 고등학교 수학교육에 주는 시사점은 첫째, 미래사회 대비를 위해 학습 내용에 대한 고민이 필요하다. 둘째, 수학 학습 선택권을 위한 지원과 고등학교 수학 교과목 개발과 동시에 평가와 연계할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 통계교육 개선을 위해 통계 교육과정의 개선이 필요하다.

영문 초록

This study intends to suggest implications by comparing Korea's high school mathematics curriculum with the UK's high school mathematics curriculum ahead of the 2022 revision of the mathematics curriculum. The UK has revised assessments to emphasize post-16 mathematics since 2017. Accordingly, the contents of Key Stage 4, Core Maths and A-level, which correspond to the UK high school mathematics curriculum, were examined and compared with Korean high school math subjects. In the UK, mathematics education is emphasized at the high school level. In the UK national curriculum, students’ options for mathematics were expanded. In order to prepare for the future society, new mathematics subjects and evaluations were developed and implemented, and the A-level mathematics was improved. In addition, the subject-centered content was developed and continuously handled from Key Stage 3 to the high school stage, and it was structured to facilitate the internal and external connection of mathematics by linking it with the subjects of other areas. The implications of this UK high school math education for high school math education in Korea are: First, it is necessary to think about the content of learning to prepare for the future society. Second, support for math learning and development of subjects and evaluation at the same time. Third, it is necessary to improve the statistics curriculum to improve statistics education.
