영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to undertake a reflective reconsideration of liberal education in Catholic universities and, in particular, to discuss what the theoretical background for Catholic liberal education was and how to restructure liberal arts curriculum on that basis. The following problems were posed: first, a reasonable response to the “liberal education crisis” must be found. Second, improving basic cultural capacity must become the key element in Catholic liberal education. Third, liberal curriculum must be updated to respond to contemporary demands. Our results were as follows. Liberal education in Catholic universities must be appropriately and socio-occupationally reformed in a reasonable, practical manner in terms of theory to reflect religious viewpoints, educational viewpoints, and contemporary demands. Catholic universities approach academics and education with the Catholic worldview of humanism, which is based on the existence of humanity's fundamental cultural capacity. Catholic universities must, in particular, plan liberal arts curriculum in a manner conforming to their own educational ideologies and to the cultivation of fundamental cultural capacity. They must reform liberal arts curriculum while taking into account the introduction of a Catholic worldview, the essential nature of subjects understanding and exploring the objective world, and establishment of a curriculum corresponding to career capacity. In summary, our intention was to reflect on the Catholic educational ideology and fundamental cultural capabilities and to make it clear that these must be revived in the present day.
