국문 초록

연구목적： 본 연구의 목적은 부천시 정신보건센터가 개설된 지 3년이 되는 해에 지역주민과 지역 공무원의 지역사회정신보건센터와 정신질환자에 대한 태도 및 인식도를 조사하여 정신질환의 지역주민의 이해에 대한 측면에서 그간의 사업에 대해 평가하고 향후 사업방향에 대한 지침으로 이용하기 위함이다. 방 법： 2001년 6월 현재 부천시 원미구에 거주하는 시민 중 20~59세 사이의 성인을 모집단으로 하는 지역사회표본과 부천시에 근무 하는 공무원을 모집단으로 하는 공무원표본을 대상으로 하였다. 조사대상은 지역주민 474명, 공무원 100명이었다. 조사도구는 Community Attitude to the Mentally Ill Inventory(CAMI)를 사용하였다. 결 과： 부천시 지역 주민은 대체로 모든 CAMI 하위척도에서 동정적이고 긍정적인 태도를 보였다. 그러나, 여성, 고연령, 저학력, 기혼, 자가, 정신과 치료 경험이 없는 집단에서 상대적으로 부정적인 태도를 보였고, 남성, 20대 연령, 고학력, 미혼, 월수입 100 만원 미만, 가족 중 정신과 치료 경험이 있는 집단, 정신보건센터를 인지하고 있는 집단에서 상대적으로 긍정적인 태도를 보였 다. 여성, 중년 연령 이상, 기혼, 자가 집단에서 정신보건시설 설치에 반대하는 경향을 보였다. 공무원의 경우도 대체적으로 긍정 적인 태도를 보였으나, 지역 주민에 비해 정신질환자의 사회생활이 제한적이야 한다는 태도가 시사되었다. 결 론： 정신보건시설에 대한 반응, 정신보건센터 인지여부는 정신질환자에 대한 태도와 강하게 연관되어 있고, 정신질환/정신질환자에 대한 올바른 지식의 보급과 정신질환자에 대한 긍정적인 태도가 관련이 있으므로, 지역주민에 대한 홍보와 계몽이 지속적으로 이루어져야한다. 또한, 공무원의 경우 정신보건사업의 추진과 지역주민에 대한 영향력을 고려할 때 보다 더 특화된 정신보건 교육이 요망된다.

영문 초록

Objectives：To investigate the attitudes toward the mentally ill in a community and among public officers and to evaluate two-year outcomes of mental health care services provided by the Community Mental Health Center in a Korean city in the aspect of community residents’ understanding the mentally ill/mental illness. Methods：During two week period of June of 2000, a total 574 persons(474 randomly selected community residents, 100 randomly public officers) who reside in one Korean community, Puchon city, were interviewed with Community Attitudes to the Mentally Ill(CAMI). Results：The randomly selected residents of this city showed generally sympathetic and positive attitudes in all CAMI subscales. But, females, the aged, the lower educated, the married, home-owners or persons who had no experience for psychiatric treatment had more negative attitudes to the mentally ill. Males, the young, the higher educated, the unmarried, persons whose monthly income are below one million won, persons who had experience for psychiatric treatment to family or persons who knew the existence of the community mental health center showed more positive attitudes to the mentally ill. Females, the aged above their 30th, the married or home-owners are opposed to the establishment of mental health facilities in their community. Public officers showed relatively negative attitudes in social restrictiveness subscale in comparison to community residents. Conclusion：More they know about mental health, more positive attitudes to the mentally ill they have. So community education about mental health is the key to the success of mental health service and needs to be delivered to females, the people of their mid to old ages, the married, the undereducated, persons who lack in experience of contacting the mentally ill and home-owners. Negative reaction to mental health facilities are strongly associated with negative attitudes to the mentally ill. Furthermore, public officers also should be the specific target of mental health education because of their influence on the community and mental health administration.
