청년 여성들의 젠더 폭력에 대한 구체적 두려움

국문 초록

청년 여성들의 젠더폭력에 대한 높은 두려움을 둘러싼 논란과 그들을 동질적 집단으로 간주하는 언설들이 지속되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 청년 여성들의 젠더폭력에 대한 구체적 두려움(강력범죄, 이별폭력, 공중화장실 이용, 불법촬영에 대한 두려움)의 영향 요인과 경로를 생애 피해 경험 및 주요 인구·통계학적 특성에 따른 여성 집단 내부의 차이를 중심으로 분석했다. 첫째, 대체로 연령이 어릴수록, 주관적 계층인식이 낮을수록 두려움이 높았고 1인 가구 여부는 불법촬영을 제외하면 각 두려움에 차이를 가져오지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 높은 계층의 높은 두려움을 설명해 온 기존 이론과 1인 가구 중심의 예방 정책이 가진 한계를 보여준다. 둘째, 연령, 계층인식, 학력, 거주형태보다는 생애에 걸친 피해 경험(성희롱, 온라인 성범죄 교제 폭력)이 두려움에 미치는 영향이 더욱 컸다. 이는 두려움의 대상인 특정한 범죄에 대한 대응을 넘어 학교, 디지털 공간, 친밀한 관계 등 생애 과정에서 여성들이 경험하고 있는 다양한 젠더폭력에 대한 대응이 우선 과제임을 시사한다. 셋째, 계층은 이 생애 피해 경험을 매개로 각 두려움에 영향을 미치고 있었다. 하층 계층 여성들은 생애에 걸쳐 다종의 피해를 더욱 경험하였고 이것이 전반적인 젠더폭력에 대한 두려움을 높이고 있는 상황인 바, 계층을 취약성 요인으로 고려한 예방 정책의 수립이 필요해 보인다.

영문 초록

There has been a continuing tendency to dismiss young women's fear of crime as irrelevant to the victimization. Also, young women have often been regarded as a homogeneous group in terms of the fear of crime. This study explored how major socio-demographic variables affect young women’s various fear of gender -based violence(GBV; violent crime, date-violence, illegal spy-cam, using a public restroom). Results can be summarized as follows. First, while the age and the perceived social class had negative effects on the fear of GBV in general, the single-person household was not significantly associated with the most types of fear of crime except for the fear of illegal spy-cam. The result implies that some previous studies that have shown the positive relationship between women’s social class and the fear of crime might not apply to young women. It also suggests the limitation of the CPTED(crime prevention through environmental design) strategies that focus on single-person households in reducing young women’s fear of GBV. Second, compared to the effect of socio-demographic factors, various types of victimization experiences during the life had relatively larger effects on the fear of GBV. This result suggests that addressing violence against women in schools, digital spaces, and intimate relationships should be prioritized in reducing young women’s fear of GBV. Third, the number of types of victimization during the whole life mediated the effect of perceived social class on the various types of fear of GBV. Based on this result, any crime prevention programs should be designed in consideration of women’s social class and the lived experiences.
