국문 초록

한국교육과정평가원에서는 시․도 교육청의 협조 하에 장기 연구를 통하여 초․중등 교과 교육과정의 편성 과정과 운영 실태를 파악함으로서 제7차 교육과정의 현장 정착을 위한 개선 방안을 마련하고자 한다. 초등학교 중심으로 이뤄진 제1차년도(2003년) 연구에 이어 제2차년도인 작년(2004년)에는 중등학교 중심으로 연구가 수행되었다. 즉, 본 고에서는 중등학교 수학 교과를 중심으로 수업 관찰 및 설문, 면담 조사 결과에 기초하여 주로 ‘단위학교 및 교사 수준에서의 수학과 교육과정 운영 실태 분석’에 관한 연구에 한정하여 다루었다. 궁극적으로, 본 고에서 다룰 연구 부분은 우선적으로 제7차 교육과정의 특징인 학생 중심의 다양하고 특성화된 만들어 가는(재구성하는) 교육과정이 중등학교의 수학 수업에서 실제로 어떻게 구현되고 있는지를 파악하고, 또 이를 토대로 그러한 교육과정을 보다 성공적으로 구현하기 위해서 단위학교 및 교사 수준에서 요구되는 지원 방안에 대하여 제안하는 것이다.

영문 초록

This study looked into the procedures of and the status on the implementation of the new mathematics curriculum at the secondary school level(7th through 10th grades). This study examined schools and the teachers were subjects for the actual implementation of the mathematics classroom. More specifically it examined the degree to which the particular innovation ideas of the 7th mathematics curriculum(i.e., reorganization, student-centeredness, diversification/specialization) were being carried out at every stage of the curriculum implementation. Nationwide survey for teachers including students were conducted along with classroom observation and teacher interviews. For an in-depth study into the process and the product of mathematics curriculum implementation, two provincial boards of education participated in the project as research partners. Detailed documentation on the classroom practices were made in order to provide schools and teachers including policy makers with relevant and practical suggestions for further improvement of mathematics curriculum implementation. It was found that mathematics teachers generally were reconstructing the contents giving the priority to the needs of the learners. The concept of learner-centeredness was reflected in teaching objectives, contents, instructional methods and evaluation. In most schools observed, emphasis was given to the reorganization of the curriculum contents fitting to the concept of student- centered curriculum. The efforts by teachers to diversity and/or specialize the curriculum contents with consideration of various educational conditions such as student readiness, student abilities, classroom equipment and facilities, school locations and environment were found.
