국문 초록

음악활동의 세 주체인 작곡가와 연주자 그리고 청중은 매개체인 음악을 통해 서로간의 의사소통을 한다. 작곡가는 악보를 통해 자신이 작곡한 음악이 어떻게 연주되어야 하는지에 대한 정보를 기입하게 되며, 연주자는 이 정보를 바탕으로 한 연주행위를 통해 음악을 청중에게 전달하게 된다. 이러한 연주과정에서 연주자는 악보에 표기된 음고, 박자, 리듬, 셈여림의 기본적 연주 정보와 음악표현에 관한 지시어 등을 자신의 연주에 반영한다. 그러나 이들은 여기에 머무르지 않고 보다 깊은 “해석”의 영역으로 진입하길 원하면서 작곡가에 의해 표면적으로 기재되지는 않았지만 음악이 내재적으로 포함하고 있는 그 무엇인가를 표현하기를 원하며 자신만의 “음악 만들기”를 시도한다. 이 때 해석의 전초적(前哨的) 단계로서 해석을 보다 객관적인 근거에서 출발할 수 있게 해주는 것이 분석이다.

영문 초록

The paper introduces two analytic essays, which integrate diverse analyses regarding the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata, Op. 31/2, Tempest. Although both essays are narratives that focus on the structure of the piece, they differ with each other in that the second one adopts Schekerian theory as its departure, whereas the other does not. The paper elucidates that, although all the information obtained through the two methods is equally useful, the Schenkerian method offers an insightful eye by which one could see the internal structure as well as the surface events of music transparently. For the first essay, Leon Plantinga’s and Carl Dahlhaus’s analyses are primarily synthesized. The two contrasting motives’ developing process in the opening theme, improvisational character reflected on the multiple layers of the music, and what Dahlhaus calls “form as a process” are reconsidered in this restructured narrative. The second essay incorporates Roger Kamien’s and Janet Schmalfeldt’s graphs and discusses motivic connections latent in different structural levels, harmonic and formal transformation in the opening and recapitulation. The paper draws a conclusion that Schenkerian perspective makes possible a large-scale examination of a piece and, broadly, an enjoyment of an analysis as a tool of understanding music critically.
